Personal Enrichment Music & Dance Piano for Adults (Beginner) For the adult who always wanted to learn how to play the piano but never had the opportunity or the time, this class is for you! Learn the basics of music through the piano keyboard with a patient and gifted piano instructor who will make your first musical experience fun and enjoyable. Learn about rhythm, time signatures, the basics of reading music and simple five-finger melodies. Keyboard skills such as theory, ear-training, ensemble playing and sight-reading will be emphasized. Wed 6:00pm to 8:00pm 10/10-12/12/12 CE7102-F01 20 hrs. 10 sessions $379 Guitar for Adults (Beginner) Designed to introduce the fundamentals of the guitar to the aspiring guitarist with little or no previous knowledge of the instrument. Course incorporates basic information about the guitar (such as guitarsetup, the strings, the fingerboard and frets, tuning the guitar, etc.) with an exploration of the various techniques and styles of guitar playing. Learn to do it the proper way by attending our voice class. This course is an introduction to the fundamental principles of vocal production and will acquaint students with the necessary tools to develop vocally. Class instruction includes basic breathing, breath control and vocal exercises. Hosted by author Joe Conzo, noted music historian and producer, these seminars will kick off with a book signing and discussion about Tito Puente's remarkable life and how he rose from humble beginnings in New York's El Barrio to international fame and recognition. Books will be available for sale in the Hostos Book Store. The following Saturdays will be divided into 3 sections concentrating on Tito and the Latin music culture. Section One will explore the early years. Section Two will focus on the New York City club scene. Section Three will honor Tito's contribution to the world of music especially and his indelible influence on AfroCuban jazz. Guest speakers will share their experiences with Tito and the importance of his impact on music beyond Latin. The Tito Puente Exhibit is housed at Hostos and available for viewing.
