Mr Clarke, Mathematics Teacher: On Saturday 28 November twenty students competed against two other schools in the annual Bar National Mock Trial Competition hosted by the Citizenship Foundation at the Staffordshire Combined Court. Students took on the roles of various court staff in the Crown Court. The Barristers were required to present their cases to a real Crown Court judge while acting as defence and prosecution in two criminal cases. Our team, ‘The Legal Eagles’ of Holly Hall consisted of: Barristers - Rhiannon Edmonds (10ARE), Karyss Devine (11STE), Aqsa Tanveer (10ARE) and Jasmine White (10HAL) Court Clerk - Abigail Boden. (10WDW) Defendants - Melisa Hove (11STE) and Haania Hussain (10HAL) Witnesses - Elle Gjoka (10HAL), Melisa Hove (11STE) Divina Matondo (11STE) and Iqrah Shokat (10THO)

Court Usher - Neo Motlatla (10COX) Jurors - Mariya Anwar Raja (10ARE), Iqra Habib (10WDW), Celia Llabres Diaz (11ALM), Lucy Lowe (10COX) and Ellie Whitehouse(10COX), The first case dealt with ‘Robbery’ and the team gave an almost flawless opening, setting out the facts of the case and the issues that were in dispute. With this impressive opening, some tactful questioning and cross examination of the witnesses, and a brilliant summary of the facts at the end, the jurors were left with no doubt in their minds that the defendant was innocent and returned a ‘not guilty’ verdict. The second case involved two Counts. Count one was ‘Theft’ and Count two was ‘Obtaining Services Dishonestly’. The team performed excellently again and secured a ‘not guilty’

Miss Rawlings, Year 8 Intervention Coordinator: Last week ten Year 8 students attended the #MeFestival at Himley Hall which was organised by Dudley Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG). The event was an opportunity for students to look at different aspects of health and wellbeing. They took part in work shops with local GPs and also local service providers such as Dudley Leisure Centre, the Fire Service and West Midlands Police. The students also entered a competition, organised by UCreate, where they recorded a short radio advert encouraging people in the local community to keep safe and well during the winter months. If they are successful in the competition the advert will be played on radio station Signal 107 so good luck to all those involved! Amman Ahmed (8GIB): “My favourite part of the day was the UCreate workshop, where we created a jingle and a rap. Hopefully we will win.” Casey Bodenham (8GIB): “I had a brilliant time. There were lots of workshops for us to join in and I learned lots of new things.”
