FRUITVALE STATION UNITED STATES // ENGLISH // 85M DIRECTOR Ryan Coogler SCREENWRITER Ryan Coogler PRODUCERS Nina Yang Bongiovi, Michael Chow, Forest Whitaker CINEMATOGRAPHER Rachel Morrison CAST Michael B. Jordan, A CONVERSATION WITH BOBBY MORESCO THURSDAY OCTOBER 17 // 6:00PM–8:00PM THE MODERN HONOLULU HOTEL // FREE Join us as we host a one-on-one conversation with Academy Award-winnng actor, director, producer and writer Bobby Moresco (MILLION DOLLAR BABY and CRASH), who will partake in a one-on-one conversation as a free, open public event. Moresco recently finished writing the feature HUBRIS for Universal, to be directed by Academy Award nominee Todd Field (LITTLE CHILDREN, IN THE BEDROOM). Also slated for production in 2013 is CASTRO’S DAUGHTER, a script he wrote with Pulitzer Prize winner Nilo Cruz, to be directed by Academy Award nominee Michael Radford (IL POSTINO). Octavia Spencer, Melonie Diaz, Ahna O’Reilly, Kevin Durand, Chad Michael Murray Oscar Grant was a 22-year-old Bay Area resident who loved his friends, was generous to strangers, and had a hard time telling the truth to the mother of his beautiful daughter. He was scared and courageous and charming and raw, and as human as the community he was part of. That community paid attention to him, shouted on his behalf, and filmed him with their cell phones when BART officers, who were strong, intimidated, and acting in the way they thought they were supposed to behave around people like Oscar, shot him in cold blood at the Fruitvale subway stop on New Year’s Day in 2009. Director Ryan Coogler makes an extraordinary directorial debut with this soulful account of the real-life event that horrified the nation. Featuring radiant performances by Melonie Diaz and Michael B. Jordan as Grant, a young man whose eyes were an open window into his soul, FRUITVALE offers a barometer reading on the state of humanity in American society today. –Sundance 6 7 BUSINESS OF ACTING THE INSIDE SCOOP ON CASTING SATURDAY OCTOBER 19 // 2:00PM–4:30PM THE MODERN HONOLULU HOTEL // FREE NEW MEDIA CAMP THURSDAY OCTOBER 17 - SUNDAY OCTOBER 20 THE MODERN HONOLULU HOTEL // BY INVITATION ONLY SAG-AFTRA presents a comprehensive workshop on the inner processes of casting diverse projects, starting with a dynamic panel of industry casting directors, producers, directors and actors, some of whom have films in the 2013 Hawaii International Film Festival.
