CDA Received Support from State

011 came to a close and I could not help but wonder where the time went? I reflect on that eventful year and ponder our accomplishments in the face of such a lack luster economic backdrop. Nonetheless, it seems that our Village continued to thrive in other areas and, the work of the CDA on behalf of the Village has resonated with a mighty crescendo, winning the support of the Long Island Regional Economic Council and $5 million in funding from the State of New York to improve our sewer infrastructure. Many would agree that bar none, sewers are our number one concern and is arguably the most significant hindrance to our downtown redevelopment. Additionally, we received notice from the State that we were awarded an additional $250,000 to address vacant land and abandoned properties under the Brownfield Opportunity Areas Grant. These grants are vital and assist the local community in offsetting costs associated with planning for its future. It goes without saying that we are grateful to our State Leaders for their commitment and support in making this possible…and a Dept. of State grant for $254,000 to plan for vacant parcels. As we bid farewell to Rachel Breton, who I must thank for her hard work and dedication in helping us realize the vision of the Hempstead Living magazine, we welcome our guest editor, Karen Taylor Bass. Ms. Bass is a public relations expert and has written for publications such as Black Enterprise among others. She is an expert on personal life skills and renewal. We look forward to her expert touch in realizing the vision for Hempstead Living. We look forward to 2012 with renewed vigor and bold ambition in our pursuit of our downtown revitalization.
