COMMUNITY EDUCATION GED TEST PREPARATION CLASSES If you are an adult 16 years of age or older who did not complete high school, GED classes will help you to prepare to take the GED examination and earn a Maryland high school diploma. Instruction will include review and practice of those skills necessary for passing the GED exam. There is a tuition and book fee for classes. Senior adult and disabled retiree tuition waivers apply. Eligible for VA benefits. Evening GED classes will be held in the Edgewood area and at Harford Community College. Former Adult Basic Education (ABE) and GED students may call 443-412-2152 to enroll in class. Adults new to the program should attend one of the advising sessions listed under Adult Basic Education (ABE) to pre-register for classes. Registration is not necessary for the advising sessions, just walk in.

LITERACY EDUCATION VOLUNTEER PROGRAM (cont.) One-on-one tutors are required to attend a ten-hour workshop to become certified to tutor an adult beginning reader in reading and writing skills. Tutoring sessions are scheduled at locations and times convenient for the tutor and student. Tutors and students usually meet once or twice a week for 1 to 2 hours per session. The College supplies books and materials for use by the tutors and students. GED PRACTICE TEST SESSION The session includes an introduction to and administration of an official GED Practice Test which predicts your score on the actual GED exam. Students will receive scores and advising on the day of the session. Testing sessions are offered by individual appointment. Students may schedule a practice test session by calling 443-412-2115. Cost of the session is $29.

LITERACY EDUCATION VOLUNTEER PROGRAM The Literacy Education Department offers volunteer opportunities in the classroom instructional program and the one-on-one literacy tutoring program. Classroom volunteers assist instructors in Adult Basic Education (ABE) or in English as a Second Language (ESL) classes which are held at locations throughout Harford County. Classes meet two evenings or mornings a week for 2 1/2 hours per session. Day classes meet in the Aberdeen and Edgewood areas. Volunteers may choose to serve one or two class sessions per week. No specialized training is necessary, but new volunteers are strongly encouraged to attend an orientation session which will be held prior to the start of the semester.
