Food Basics – Lets Fuel Up! 1. Drink more water, please! How much? Drink half your body weight in ounces everyday and you will feel like a champ ole sport! 2. Keep your meals simple and consistent. Each meal should have the basic macronutrients: protein (lean meat, eggs – the whole thing, yolk and white), carbohydrates (lots of veggies and some fruit), and fat (olive oil, avocados, nuts). Aim for three meals a day at minimum. I don’t care if you’re not hungry or don’t like eating early in the morning. Your body needs fuel, feed it right and have a better life. 3. Buy fresh every few days instead of a bunch of boxed, processed, fake ass food all at once. Real food spoils. If you have food that doesn’t spoil for weeks or months, guess what, it’s not food its mostly chemicals. Bonus: fresh whole foods will hydrate you and give you all the vitamins and minerals you need to thrive! 4. Pack a lunch, it should contain a meal and two snacks, and bring it to work every day. Plan what you eat or plan to fail. This will eliminate excuses, put you in the driver seat towards super wellness, and when you are stuck in a late meeting or traffic you have some delicious fresh snacks that you handpicked. 5. Enjoy the holiday season. I love the holiday season and I’m sure you do as well. Thanksgiving – eat, eat, eat, but please don’t judge yourself. Remember, Thanksgiving is one day, don’t turn it into a week. Apply this to other holidays as well, but if each week has 2-3 “holidays” you might want to recalibrate your holiday meter. But…I don’t have the time! Bullshit! On average American’s spend 2.8 hours per day watching TV (bls.gov) and 31 minutes on Facebook (statisticbrain.com). The best part, you don’t have to stop these leisure activities, just cut them in half. Now, you should have time to prepare meals for tomorrow and workout! But…isn’t there an easier way like super-foods or supplementation? I am asked this question often; generally they are a waste of time, effort, and money. NO, there are no shortcuts, plain and simple. The above are shortcuts that many would take and use to “super-food” and “supplement” their way through lack of proper sleep, nutrition, and exercise. If you have been locked in for the last 6 months eating real whole foods matched with an active lifestyle, then you may qualify for super-food and supplementation – you earned it. That said; get busy on 1-5. It may not be easy, but it will be worth it! Have an enjoyable and safe holiday season!
