AS MOST of us have experienced, you have probably fallen in love in Baja California Sur as well. Ideal place for a summer home, an investment property, a good plan for the future. Sunny weather all year long, beautiful private sandy beaches, striking nature, rich underwater ecosystem, amazing food, friendly people, and – the last but not least – it is just a short flight away from your home, so you can drop in anytime you would like to relax and unwind, even just for a weekend, and vice versa. I know; I love it too.

And how do you search for your new (summer) home or property to build upon? Are you site seeing and visiting open houses and comparing the features? Are you planning to choose your new home based on a floor plan, fancy kitchens, spacious bedrooms, ocean views, lush gardens...? While these features are important, I have another suggestion: don’t get misguided by “the bigger the better”.
Pero, ¿Cómo busca su nuevo hogar (de verano) o propiedad para construir? ¿Está visitando lugares y casas muestra comparando sus atractivos? ¿Está pensando en escoger su nueva casa considerando la distribución, lo atractivo de la cocina, sus recámaras, vistas, jardines…? Mientras éstos atributos son importantes, tengo otra sugerencia: no se deje malinterpretar por “mientras más grande, mejor”.
Comparison shopping in general often leads us up to wanting more; the bigger house, the newest mobile phone… even though we don’t really need it. Although this may sound somewhat odd coming from a realtor, read on. When searching for your new home, follow the hedonistic approach and seek emotional efficiency: how to reap the most happiness for your dollar.

Think of what you really need from your new home. How do you usually travel? With your family and/or friends and maybe with your friends’ friends as well? What activities you do while on vacation…if you like hiking, seek for a place with nice hiking trails, so you and your spouse can enjoy walks in the nature; if you love the ocean, search for an ocean front home or a home with the great view and swimmable beaches nearby; if you are a surfer buy a home in the proximity of a surf spot. No matter what your hedonistic desire is, seek to full fill that need. The recent economic crisis has revoked our old values, and we all realize that at the end what truly matters is our happiness.
