he Jill Anderson boutique shut its doors after 18 years this past November. High rent, combined with difficulties keeping up with demand, were the reasons. “There just isn’t any protection out there for small businesses,” Anderson, whose store was on East 9th Street between First and Second avenues, told DNAinfo. Anderson designed the dress for writer/director Debra Granik when her film “Winter’s Bone” was nominated for an Academy Award. Nabe news

he tower coming to the former Pathmark site at 277 Cherry Street could reach 70 stories in height, according to Vincent Papa, president of local community group Two Bridges Neighborhood Council. While the new building will also include a supermarket, it’s likely to be an upscale one, noted Papa. He and other local leaders are urging the developer to bring a more affordable grocery store to the project.
