Pitt played its first contest in school history as the nation’s No. 1 ranked team...Pitt shot 58 percent from the floor in the second half and used runs of 15-2 and 15-4 to break the game open...Jermaine Dixon scored seven of Pitt’s first nine second half points as Pitt built a 50-40 lead...Despite shooting just 7-15 (47 percent) from the free throw line in the first half, Pitt led by five points at halftime...Pitt forced 24 turnovers and grabbed 20 offensive rebounds in the contest...With 23 points and 15 rebounds, DeJuan Blair registered his 10th double-double of the year and set a career-high for steals (6)...His 10 offensive rebounds tied a careerhigh...Dixon scored a career-high 17 points...The game served as a reunion for former Pittsburgh Schenley H.S. teammates Blair and St. John’s D.J. Kennedy...Pitt defeated St. John’s for the fifth straight home game and improved to 19-33 all-time vs. the Red Storm.

Pitt used a 15-4 run to build a 62-48 lead with 4:51 left in the game...The run was keyed by 3-pointers from Levance Fields and Brad Wanamaker, along with baskets from Sam Young and Tyrell Biggs...Pitt improved to 16-0, the school’s third-best start to a season...Biggs scored a season-high 16 points and led Pitt in scoring for the first time in his career...Fields totaled his second career double-double with a career-high 13 assists...DeJuan Blair registered his third consecutive double-double...With the win, Jamie Dixon moved into third place on Pitt’s all-time career coaching victories list surpassing Paul Evans...The game was delayed 25 minutes due to a rush-hour storm which caused South Florida to arrive to the game late.
