In Pitt’s first of four Legends Classic games, the Panthers outrebounded Akron 29-9 in the first half in building a 45-27 halftime advantage...Pitt assistant coach Brandin Knight was honored prior to tipoff as part of the Legends Classic...With his 26 points, Sam Young registered his 18th career 20-point game...He scored 11 of Pitt’s final 15 points before halftime...Levance Fields hit a career-high 12 free throws and Tyrell Biggs matched a career-high with 11 rebounds...Pitt grabbed 22 offensive rebounds...Pitt played its second straight Mid-American Conference opponent and improved to 33-26 all-time vs. MAC opponents.

In its second Legends Classic contest, Pitt won its 100th game in the Petersen Events Center...Pitt jumped out to a 20-0 lead after the game’s first seven minutes...IUP finally got on the board with a 3-pointer at the 13:29 mark...The Crimson Hawks trimmed Pitt’s lead to as few as nine points, but the Panthers put the contest out of reach by outscoring IUP 21-2 over the half’s final 7:50...DeJuan Blair registered his third doubledouble of the year and 17th of his career prior to halftime (20 points/16 rebounds)...He finished with a careerhigh 27 points...Pitt improved to 9-0 all-time vs. IUP...IUP center Maurice Polen was a former Pitt walk-on. Sam Young scored a career and Pitt Petersen Events Center high 33 points in leading the Panthers to a 14point win...Young sparked Pitt by scoring 12 points in the second half’s first 10 minutes to help Pitt build a 17-point lead (57-40)...Young, who registered a career-high 13 field goals, finished with 18 second half points...He became the first Pitt player to score 30-plus points since Carl Krauser scored 32 vs. Syracuse on Jan. 23, 2006 ...His 33 points tied a Jamie Dixon-Ben Howland Era individual scoring high as Ricardo Greer also scored 33 points in 2000...Pitt converted 71.4 percent (15-21) of its field goals in the second half...Belmont was limited to 28.8 percent shooting (12-32) for the game...Pitt improved to 101-10 all-time in the Petersen Events Center.
Pitt advanced to the Legends Classic championship game with a 13-point win over Texas Tech...Pitt closed the first half on a 13-0 run in building a 37-27 halftime lead...Texas Tech closed the deficit to 49-43 on an Alan Voskuil 3-pointer with 11:45 left, but the Panthers went on a 6-2 run and never let the Red Raiders get closer than seven points the rest of the way...A 9-4 run sparked by Sam Young put the Panthers up 16 points with three minutes left in the game...Young registered his 20th career 20-point night...DeJuan Blair finished with his fourth double-double on the year...The victory was Pitt’s 10th in its last 11 games played in the New Jersey-New York region...Pitt improved to 27-9 in games played in the region since 2000...The game maarked the first meeting between the two schools.
