1 Municipal, 3 Regional Airports Provide Service In The Region Several airports serve the region. Private aircraft service and cargo shipping are provided by the Greeneville Municipal Airport, operated by the Greeneville-Greene County Airport Authority. Commercial airlines f ly from these three airports in the region: • Tri-Cities Regional A irport Tennessee / Virginia, located near Blountville at the center of the Kingsport, Bristol and Johnson City triangle; • McGhee Tyson Air-

port in Knoxville; and • Asheville Regional Airport in Asheville, N.C. Tri-Cities Airport is a 45- to 60-minute drive from Greeneville, while the Knoxville and Asheville airports are at least 75 to 90 minutes away. Among the more active corporate users of the airport are Landair Transport, Forward Air Corporation, Parker, Walmart, DTR Tennessee, Austin Powder Company, US Nitrogen, A ngus Palm, Miller Industries, and John Deere Power Products. T he air por t has completed the majority of a runway project, although a portion of the drainage and landscape system is still

The airlines that serve the airport include Allegiant Air, American Airlines, Delta, Frontier Airlines, United Airways, and U.S. Airways. Approximately 1.7 million passengers use the airport each year, according to 2011 statistics. In addition to passenger

traffic, the airport is also home to two regional jet maintenance facilities. The Tennessee Air National Guard’s 134th Air Refueling Group operates out of McGhee Tyson Airport. McGhee Tyson Airport offers long-term, shortterm and economy parking; full-service dining; a food court that includes a Starbucks; a bookstore; and a gift shop. McGhee Tyson Airport is located near Knoxville. From I-40 West, the airport is located off exit 386B (approximately 12 miles from the exit ramp). Regional Airport (AVL) is served by four commercial air carriers: Allegiant Air, Delta Airlines, United Airlines, and US Airways. The terminal building opens at 4:30 a.m. and closes after the last flight of the day arrives. The airfield is open 24 hours a day. AVL provides approximately 30 commercial flights per day with nonstop flights to nine hubs: Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Detroit, Houston, Newark, New York City, Orlando and Philadelphia. The Asheville Regional Airport has an 8,001foot runway. It is located 15 miles south of downtown Asheville, N.C., at exit 40 off Interstate 26.
