MCOY: A process and criteria that define excellence

T

he Michigan Contractor of the Year (MCOY) Awards were developed four years ago to give the American Subcontractors Association of Michigan (ASAM) membership an opportunity to nominate and recognize general contractors and construction managers who exhibit best practices, professionalism and collaboration with Michigan’s subcontracting community. ASAM members nominated candidates from June 27 through July 30 at asamichigan.net. Online voting took place from August 19 through September 20, evaluating nominees for performance in specific categories that are essential to the contractor-subcontractor relationship. Takes the lead in setting the tone for a positive jobsite where challenges are dealt with in a professional timely manner, individuals are treated with respect and dignity, and all are working together to produce a quality project. •Communication: Questions and concerns are dealt with in a timely matter so as to keep the project moving forward. Regularly communicates candidly, openly, and professionally successes and challenges to all of those involved in the project. •Schedule Coordination: Accepts and incorporates input regarding overall project schedule and informs all affected parties in advance of potential challenges with the schedule.
