2012 ALL-AMERICA (200 Medley Relay, 400 Medley Relay) 2012 ALL-BIG TEN SECOND TEAM 2012 BIG TEN ALL-ACADEMIC LION CAREER 2011-12: Earned All-America distinction in the 400 medley relay, anchoring the team to an eighth-place finish in a school-record time of 3:07.62... Anchored the 200 medley relay to All-America honors with a blazing 19.25 leg during prelims...Swam on the 200 free relay at Big Tens and at NCAAs, leading off both relays...Led off the 400 free relay at NCAAs and Big Tens... Held the team’s top times in the 50 free (19.80, lead-off leg at NCAAs, 3/22/12) and 100 free (43.85 at Big Ten Championships, 2/25/12)... Earned spot as Penn State’s second-fastest 200 freestyle swimmer with a 1:38.17 swim at Big Tens...Also participated in the 800 freestyle relay at Big Tens, anchoring the team to a 6:28.99. 2010-11: Competed in the Big Ten Championships in six events...Had best 50 freestyle (20.57) and 100 freestyle (44.93) times at Big Ten Championships, finishing in 30th place...Notched best 200 freestyle finish of season at Big Ten Championships with a time of 1:40.00, earning 45th place... Earned two victories in relay events, helping the team win the 200 freestyle relay vs. Buffalo and the 400 medley relay vs. Buffalo (2/4/11)...Posted his best individual finish with a third place at West Virginia (10/16/10). HIGH SCHOOL Swam to seven All-America distinctions at Unionville...Squad won the League Championship freshman year under the direction of Jeremy Dickson and Erin Carey...Won the PIAA State Championship and set the record in the 100 free junior year...Placed in the Top 10 in three events (50, 100 and 200 freestyle) at the SCY Junior National Championships. PERSONAL Shane Thomas Austin was born April 5, 1992 in Bryn Mawr, Pa. to John and Mary Austin...The youngest of four children with sister, Jennifer, and two brothers, Mike, a 1999 PSU graduate, and John, a co-captain of the 2010-11 PSU swimming squad...Majoring in biology. LION CAREER 2011-12: Qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials in both the 200 breast and the 400 IM in the summer of 2012...Competed in three events in the 2012 Big Ten Championships, including a 12th-place finish in the B Finals in the 200 breast with a time of 1:59.74, fourth all-time in Penn State history...Set a personal best record in the 200 breast, as well as in the 400 IM (3:51.57) for a 14th place finish in the B Final at the Big Tens...Led a Nittany Lion sweep of the 400 IM against West Virginia with a time of 4:04.44 and again in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:06.19...Won the 200 breast against Georgia Tech with a time of 2:05.11...Qualified for the 200 breast A final at the Ohio State Invitational with a time of 2:01.60 before finishing eighth with 2:03.05...Recorded a season high of 58.00 seconds in the 100 breast at OSU, as well as a personal best in the 200 IM with a time of 1:53.27 (12/2/11)...Finished the 200 breaststroke in 2:02.88 to capture a second place finish against Navy.... With a time of 2:03.49, placed third against OSU and Michigan (1/27/12)...Rounded out the regular season with a first place finish in the 200 breast with a time of 2:05.14 against Lehigh (2/4/12). 2010-11: Competed in eight events as a freshman, seeing the most action in the 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke and the 400 individual medley... Swam 2:08.01 for a third place finish at West Virginia (10/16/10)... Notched a career-best time of 58.82 at the Georgia Invitational (12/4/10), finishing in 20th place...Also posted a career-best in the 200 breaststroke at the Georgia Invitational, swimming a time of 2:04.24...Earned a third place finish in the 400 IM at West Virginia...Had season-best time of 3:59.52 in the 400 IM at the Georgia Invitational. HIGH SCHOOL Swam for the Scarlet Athletic Club under the direction of Tom Speedling ...Qualified for Junior Nationals three times...Four-time Secional Championship finalist in 2009 (100 and 200 breaststroke, 1,000 and 1,650 freestyle)...Two-time Sectional Championship finalist in the 100 and 200 breaststroke. PERSONAL Chris Patrick Cipolla was born December 2, 1991 in Chicago, Ill. to Ann and Robert Cipolla...Majoring in nutrition.
