ASSOCIATED PRESS POLL FACTS • Penn State has been ranked in the final Associated Press poll 20 times. • Penn State has been ranked in the Top 10 in the final AP poll 11 times. • Penn State has been ranked No. 1 in the national polls five times (Jan. 7, March 4, 1991; Jan. 24, 31 and Feb. 7, 1994).

Poll History • The Associated Press poll was launched by Mel Greenberg of the Philadelphia Inquirer in 1976-77. • In 1989-90, the AP weekly coaches’ poll expanded from 20 to 25 teams. • USA Today poll began selecting its Top 25 teams after the 1986 NCAA Championship game. • Prior to the 1994-95 season, the coaches voting panels switched affiliation. The USA Today poll became the coaches’ weekly poll, while the AP poll is now decided by the media.
