Record Book Gonzaga University has a long and storied history of guard play from the days of 2009 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame inductee John Stockton to the more recent play of John Rille, who single-handedly shot the Bulldogs into the 1995 NCAA Tournament with his West Coast Conference Tournament record 94 points in three games; Matt Santangelo’s championship record 34 points in the 1999 WCC title game, and Dan Dickau who became the most decorated Gonzaga Bulldog in school history when he earned first-team All-America honors and was drafted in the first round of the 2002 NBA Draft. Blake Stepp became the latest in a long line of GU guards twice earning WCC Player of the Year honors, twice earning All-America honors and was drafted in the second round of the 2004 NBA Draft. Derek Raivio (2007) and Jeremy Pargo (2008) followed Stepp as WCC Players of the Year. Since joining the West Coast Conference for the 1979-80 season, Gonzaga has had 18 guards earn a total of 36 All-WCC honors, including three-time selections Jim McPhee (1987, 89-90), Matt Santangelo (1998-00), and two-time picks Jeremy Pargo (2007-08), Derek Raivio (2005, 2007) Dan Dickau (200102), Kyle Dixon (1995-96), Jarrod Davis (1991-92), Doug Spradley (1988-89), Blake Stepp (2003-04) and John Stockton (1983-84).
