DAVID BIBEE David Bibee is in his second stint at Middle Tennessee, having joined Rick Stockstill’s staff in 2008 after two years at Chattanooga. Bibee is in charge of the Blue Raider safeties. Bibee’s 2010 unit was once again very solid behind the play of All-Conference pick Jeremy Kellem, Kevin Brown, and Derrick Crumpton. The threesome combined for 15 pass breakups and helped the Blue Raiders have the nation’s 30th ranked pass defense. In 2009, his safeties had eight interceptions, nine tackles for loss, 12 breakups, three sacks, and three fumble recoveries in helping the Blue Raiders finish second in the Sun Belt in pass defense. Kellem and Brown were 4th and 6th on the team in tackles, and Kellem earned First Team All-Conference honors. Bibee, who has 30 years of coaching experience including 24 on the collegiate level, has served as an assistant coach at Ole Miss, North Alabama, Middle Tennessee, Austin Peay State, Appalachian State, South Carolina, Tennessee Tech, Clemson, East Tennessee State, and Chattanooga. Coach Bill Battle. He moved on to the staff at Ole Miss in 1978, where he was placed in charge of the defensive scout teams on Steve Sloan’s first Rebels’ staff. He left Ole Miss to coach the defensive secondary and work as recruiting coordinator at North Alabama for one year and held the same positions for one year at Middle Tennessee (1980). Sparky Woods hired Bibee at Appalachian State in 1984 to be his assistant head coach, recruiting coordinator and secondary coach. Bibee helped the Mountaineers compile a 38-19 overall record during that span, with back-to-back Southern Conference titles in 1986 and 1987. The Mountaineers ranked first, third, and fifth nationally in scoring defense during his tenure. Bibee joined Woods at South Carolina in 1989 to work as assistant head coach, codefensive coordinator, and secondary coach. He was part of Mike Hennigan’s first coaching staff at Tennessee Tech in 1996, holding the posts of defensive backs coach and recruiting coordinator for the Golden Eagles for one season. He coached alongside current Atlanta Falcon Head Coach Mike Smith. Prior to heading to the Baylor School, Bibee coached the secondary and outside linebackers at Clemson from 1997 to 1999, where he was on staff with Stockstill and Les Herrin. Working for head coach Tommy West, Bibee helped the Tigers to a Peach Bowl berth in 1997. Bibee is a 1977 graduate of the University of Tennessee, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in health education. He played football for the Volunteers from 1973 to 1976 and was a member of the 1973 Gator Bowl team and the 1974 Liberty Bowl squad. Bibee is married to the former Lisa Carter of Savannah, Tenn. The couple has three daughters, twins Ashlee and Allison, and Lindsay.
