often than not, stressed with the thought their business will fold up if they relax for a moment. Naturally, we all value a good living standard and the means of acquiring a few luxuries, but once obsession takes over, a soul destroying process takes over and wealth becomes pointless. Marriages break up and health often suffers. Many women and men go to work to escape loneliness, not merely for the income, so it is essential to recognise the need for a happy environment. The idea that people take advantage of an easy-going atmosphere is usually expressed by managers unable to gain respect without resorting to demanding tactics. Time and time again, I noticed that if instructions from management were given in a courteous manner, they were respected and not taken advantage of, as some would believe. Employees should be regularly asked if they have suggestions and made to feel part of a team. You might query where ‘holism’ comes into the picture. After all, it could be viewed that a good staff relationship is just common sense. But harmony in the office or factory has much wider implications. Most of the miseries of the world are caused by ignoring the plights and problems of others. If people can train themselves to ‘step into the shoes’ of opponents, disputes even wars can be defused at source. Likewise, the holistic aspect of life in the office and factory, lies with the feelings of goodwill, happiness and respect people have for each other. But the holistic element does not rest there. Tradesmen and visitors to the premises sense and absorb ‘ positive vibrations’ without realising it and, when the staff go home, they take their ‘vibrations’ back with them. This permeates into the home atmosphere and spreads to other members of the family. Summing up. If each of us realise we have a part to play in making our ‘local world’ a happier place to live in, who knows whether this trend can catch on and reach out into the world at large! In the meantime, where better to do something positive than in the work place?
