Girona prize giving ON THE 6th. November the Bloc Party of Els poblets will award the fourth Girona Prizes (Premios Girona). These will be awarded during a dinner to be held in the Casa de Cultura in Els Poblets. The prizes this year will be awarded to Francisco Tomàs; the prize for Dedication to the village. For many years he has been connected with various activities at a local level, such as Pigeon breeding, Pelota, the

Pensioners Club, and has also been a Justice of the peace for 8 years. The other prize, which is given for integration, is awarded to the “Escuadra Internacional” of the fila Cavallers de l’Apocalipsi. This group of people decided to integrate themselves into the fiestas of our village and to get to know some of our customs by participating like any other local of Els Poblets. Spain’s per capita income rising PRIME MINISTER Zapatero insisted last week while in congress, that the data regarding trends in per capita income in Spain between 2004 and 2009 show this figure “advancing, progressing and rising in line with the European average”. The PM continued that “in 2004, the
per capita income in Spain was €3,600 lower than it was in 2009 - a year already influenced by the economic crisis we have experienced”. Zapatero added that per capita income in Spain in 2004 stood at 98 percent of the European average, whereas in 2009 it had risen to 104 percent.

VISITORS TO a new Costa Blanca exhibition simply named ‘Fragile’ will enjoy a challenging experience as they view paintings, photography and poetry. Opening on 6th November, and running until the end of the month, the show at ArtHouse, Gata de Gorgos, takes visitors out of a comfort zone to an unexpected and colourful examination of the word. Julia Evans, ArtHouse Director and RTN columnist, explained it was a highly unusual exhibition for the area and carried a modern ‘city’ feel. A professional artist herself; Julia is showing her work with fellow artists Darren Whiting, Keith Barnes, Mary Atkinson and Sylvia Mason, along with a selection of ArtHouse students.
