Jr.), Abry Jones (6-3, 290, So.), and Brandon Wood (6-1, 286, Sr.). Those three played in a total of 35 games in ’09 so they all have game experience. Also in the mix will be redshirt redshirt freshmen Kwame Geathers (6-6, 326, RFr.) and Derrick Lott (64, 295, RFr.). Several returning players, including two starters, will be competing for jobs but may or may not be at the position they covered last season. Justin Houston (6-3, 259, Jr.), a second team All-SEC selection, and Demarcus Dobbs (6-2, 274, Sr.) were Georgia’s starting defensive ends in ’09. Houston led the team with 7.5 sacks and 15 Arby Jones tackles-for-loss in addition to 39 tackles. Dobbs started all 13 games and recorded 30 tackles, 5.5 tackles-forloss, and 4.5 sacks. Other returning defensive end lettermen that will be in the mix for time at one of these new positions will be Cornelius Washington (6-4, 248, RSo.), Montez Robinson (6-5, 250, So.), and Kiante Tripp (6-6, 275, Sr.). Washington recorded five tackles-for-loss and four sack playing DE in ’09. Robinson played in 11 games in ’09 and recorded two tacklesfor-loss and two sacks. Tripp has played both DE and DT during his career on defense. Also competing for one of these spots will be Jeremy Longo (6-3, 255, RSo.).

Commings (6-2, 214, RSo.), Vance Cuff (5-11, 177, Sr.), Branden Smith (5-11, 175, So.), Shawn Williams (6-1, 195, So.), and Chad Gloer (5-10, 193, Sr.). Also expected in the cornerback mix will be Jordan Love (6-0, 185, RFr.). Returning lettermen at safeties include Quintin Banks (6-2, 213, Sr.) and Bacarri Rambo (6-0, 210, RSo.). Banks has been hampered by injuries most of his career but when healthy can make significant contributions. Rambo played in 11 games last season recording 25 tackles and two interceptions. Signee Jakar Hamilton (6-2, 196, Jr.) enrolled in January from junior college and will figure prominently in the safety mix. Also competing at one of the safety spots will be Makiri Pugh (6-0, 196, RSo.).

SPECIALISTS

Georgia may have the country’s top kicking tandem in punter Drew Butler (6-2, 203, Jr.) and placekicker Blair Walsh (51, 185, Jr.). As a sophomore, Butler won the Ray Guy Award in 2009 as the country’s top punter averaging 48. 1 yards per kick. Walsh was a finalist for the Lou Groza Award as the nation’s top placekicker. He was good on 42x42 PAT’s and 20x22 field goal attempts including 4x5 over 50 yards. Brandon Bogotay (6-3, 200, Jr.) also returns as a placekicker. Butler is also the holder.

SECONDARY

Despite losing three starters, the secondary does have eight returning lettermen to compete in the spring. The lone returning starter is cornerback Brandon Boykin 5-10, 185, Jr.) who was the team’s fourth leading tackler with 54 tackles. He also intercepted three passes and was the team’s top kickoff return man averaging 26 yards per return and scoring an SEC record three kickoff return TD’s.
