LeaDershiP By eXaMPLe Damon Evans was a solid contributor during each of his four seasons on the football field in Athens, but he’s made a much more significant impact as Director of Athletics. Evans, who holds two degrees from UGA, moved into his current position in 2004 when he was just 34. Evans was one of the youngest ADs in the nation and the first African-American to hold that position in the SEC. He has been included in Street & Smith’s Sports Business Journal’s “40 under 40” of the most prominent individuals in sports under 40 years old and ranked as one of the “101 Most Influential Minorities in Sports” by Sports Illustrated for several years. Georgia Athletics have flourished under his leadership, finishing among the nation’s top-20 teams in the NACDA Director’s Cup the last five years and winning the SEC All-Sports Trophy as the league’s strongest overall athletic program in 2005-06.

Damon evans “Being a student-athlete at the University of Georgia was an honor and a privilege. Most importantly, I was able to attain two degrees! As the Athletic Director, I want student-athletes to have the very best collegiate experience. My goal is that we educate and prepare them for life beyond athletics.” sTaBLe of coaches Georgia features a list of the nation’s most accomplished coaches in virtually every sport.
