University College Cork Country: Ireland Location: Cork Campus: SUNY Cortland Term(s): Fall, Spring, Academic Year, Summer Language of Instruction: English Program Description: The University College Cork is located near the center of Cork city, the second largest city in the Republic of Ireland. It is one of four constituent universities of the Federal National University of Ireland. Faculties at UCC include Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences; Business and Law; Medicine and Health; and Science, Engineering and Food Science. Year-long students may earn a Certificate in Irish studies. In the fall, students enroll in an Early Start Semester option that runs through September, prior to the beginning of the semester classes beginning in October. Early Start options include study in Irish history, literature, archeology, folklore & ethnology, music, management & business in the EU, and law. During the summer, students may study for 4 weeks at University College Cork in its prestigious International Summer School in Irish Studies. In this program, students will earn 6 credits (3 credits in Irish Literature and 3 credits in Irish History). The program includes mandatory, guided study tours which give students the opportunity to explore Ireland's pristine countryside and visit the places studied in the program's lectures and seminars. The city of Cork was named "The 2005 European Capital of Culture" and is a vibrant center of activity for students and locals. The university offers excellent student services through its International Education Office located on campus. Note: During the semester and academic year options, students are required to make and pay for their own housing arrangements with the support of UCC's Accommodations Office. For the Summer School in Irish Studies program, housing is included in the program fee. India Institute of Technology Roorke Country: India Location: Roorkee Campus: Stony Brook University Term(s): Fall, Spring, Academic Year Language of Instruction: English Program Description: 160 years is a long time by human standards. But that is how long IIT Roorkee has been a center of excellence. They are the oldest technical institution in India, and their roots lie in the Thomason College of Engineering, established 1847. The institution was awarded the status of the first technical university of free India. The University of Roorkee quickly gained an international reputation as a center of excellence and was renowned for churning out, year after year, some of the best engineers in the world. In the year 2001, the University was declared an institute of national importance and accorded the status of an "Indian Institute of Technology". From the Thomason College of Engineering to an IIT, the institute has come full circle.
