Program Description: Two-week study where landmark attractions of London, Stonehenge, Bath and Greenwich are our classroom as we trace the history, culture, and traditions of Great Britain. Visits and lectures explore the causes and effects of social classes through the ages, from the extravagance of the royals to the struggles of workers, serfs and slaves. We also look at how Britain—once the seat of the global British Empire — has influenced the world by imposing its ways and laws on non-British subjects. Aggressive walking and stair climbing are a part of this program. Eligibility Requirements: Open to all students Credits: 3 undergraduate Application Deadline: October 29

Students choose from a wide selection of courses drawn from the regular academic curriculum in this program held at MU's Trent Park campus, a beautiful mansion set on 950 acres of rolling park land 30 minutes from central London. Courses include art, design, and performing arts, business and management, health and technology, humanities, and social science and education. Students enjoy a tour of London, visits to local theaters and historic centers, and on-campus entertainment. British Perspectives on the American Revolution Country: United Kingdom Location: London (England) Campus: SUNY Brockport Term(s): Summer Language of Instruction: English Program Description: British Perspectives on the American Revolution summer program in London provides an opportunity for both undergraduate and graduate students to understand the meanings of the American Revolution from British perspectives. Some in England offered moral and financial support as well as revolutionary theories and ideas to the colonists in their rebellion against English domination. Others fully supported the extension of British imperial strength in its colonies. Many of the most prominent English writers and politicians of the last half of the eighteenth century weighed in on this important debate. Their writings offer fascinating insights into the larger significance of the American Revolution. Tour medieval through 18th-century London within the old city walls; visit the south bank of Shakespeare and Jonson, the Romantics’ Hampstead Heath, the haunts of the “Eminent Victorians” and PreRaphaelites, Bloomsbury of the early 20th century, and contemporary settings of such writers as Zadie Smith. Students will receive a packet of reading materials and a list of films to view before departure. Aggressive walking and stair climbing are a part of this program. London Theatre Seminar, London Country: United Kingdom Location: London (England) Campus: SUNY New Paltz Term(s): Winter Intersession Language of Instruction: English Program Description: Students get to know the historical, cultural, and creative traditions of British theater as they attend and then discuss six plays. This two-week seminar provides access to the best available performances at both the Royal National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company, as well as other interesting works in the West End, Fringe, and experimental theaters. In the past, excursions outside the city went to Oxford, Stratford-upon-Avon (Shakespeare's birthplace), or Bath.
