SPRING’S HIDDEN “GEMS”” by Maria Paray Hello Spring! We all want to get out from under the winter, economic turmoil and constant barrage of politics. It’s time for something new and fun! The Spring 2012 Pantone colors are out, with Tangerine Tango – a bright, spiced red orange - capturing honors as Color of the Year. So according to red carpet and runway trends, this spring look for BRIGHT and look for ABUNDANCE! An armful of bangles and bracelets is not too much – thin, wide, mixed gold and silver, it all works. The $11.8 million auction of Elizabeth Taylor’s famous La Peregrina pearl necklace has made everyone hungry for pearls. Look for necklaces and earrings of affordable freshwater pearls. Go with natural color for a classic look, or dyed for a little whimsy – either way, look

for pearls with high luster for a beautiful glow. Pendant necklaces are great for gifts – no sizing worries! Layer different textures, lengths, metal chains, and leather necklaces. Mix beaded necklaces with pendants on chains – look for various media – silver, glass, bronze, and wood. A plethora of pendants looks especially well on the unadorned shifts that are trending so popular right now.

Let the necklaces and bracelets take charge! Earrings hang long and lean. Studs in quirky shapes – stars, crescents, fleur de lis – are also surging and are much friendlier to earlobes than the mega earring styles of late. Even if you can’t afford a completely new wardrobe, use your existing jewelry and maybe a few new pieces for a refreshed spring look. Have fun with it and trust your own sense of style! • Maria Paray Maria Paray Designs mariaparay.com april 2011
