TEE-OFF News

President’s Message By Steven Showers I hope everyone made it through another summer and are enjoying the cool fall weather. We had a smaller than normal turnout for our annual Lowell Stone Charity tournament at Madera Country Club, but there were some benefits to the smaller field. We were able to complete play in just four hours and enSteven Showers joyed a very well prepared golf 2017 GCSACC President course, thanks to Lowell Stone himself for hosting this great event! Lowell does a great job directing a very small staff at the course and keeps the course very playable. Thank you to all that participated and also our great sponsors, we enjoyed another great lunch thanks to Ewing Irrigation. Please remember to consider our sponsors when you make your next purchase. I hope you are planning on attending the annual Holiday Party (Christmas Party) at Windows on the Water, in Morro Bay on December 10th. We have moved the date back one week in order to keep it on the boat parade evening; the parade was moved to the second Saturday

instead of the first due to a low tide event. We will hold our January meeting at a location to be determined, we should have the host course announcement soon. The January meeting will be our new annual association meeting, let’s hope for much better attendance than we got at our September meeting. With regards to our upcoming meeting schedule, if you have ever thought of hosting a meeting we would be happy to set it up for you. Feel free to contact any board member or the association office with any questions you may have with regards to hosting. With only one event remaining in 2016, and it’s a great party by the way, I wanted you to think of why you did or didn’t attend the meetings your association held this year. For those of you that participated I would like to personally say “THANKS” and for those of you who couldn’t make a meeting this year, I hope to see you in the future. The education we provided this past year included some great topics and of course the networking opportunities alone are a big reason to come out and enjoy your association. Please take some time this fall to spend time with your family and friends and get away from the job, it will still be there when you return. Have a great holiday season and I hope to see you at the Christmas party on December 10!

Work at the Montecito Country Club

The last quarter of 2016 begins and we continue to see changes in chapter and the courses. From the South end of the Chapter (Santa Barbara), Past President Tennessee McBroom reports that work at the Montecito Country Club continues at an excellent pace. They have

gone from 95 irrigated acres to 75 irrigated acres during this immense renovation. The course, which closed in January, will feature a new “state-of-the-art” irrigation system that will use recycled water from Santa Barbara’s El Estero Wastewater Treatment Plant. The project is expected to be completed in late 2017. A little further north, Marshallia Ranch Golf Course closed on Sept 1st. The Pro Shop and the driving range remain open but because of insufficient water for the course it will remain closed. There

are rumors of investors but nothing substantiated. Nick Smith is the new superintendent of the Alisal Guest Ranch Course. He is new to the chapter and we hope he will soon be joining us for a meeting. Dairy Creek Golf Course was told that all incoming affluent irrigation waters will be diverted down the creek to protect the native steelhead run. The course remains open although minimal water is being used on the tees and greens. In the valley, Sierra Golf Management took over the operation of Airways Golf Course beginning Oct 1st. This is an 8 month contract until a formal bidding process is concluded. Be sure to let us know of any news you would like to share.
