DEAN’S MESSAGE Thanks to your support, the Pitt Community College Division of Continuing Education and Community Development is the fastest growing Continuing Education Division in the state of North Carolina. Dr. Jill Biden commented that community colleges are changing the way we think about workforce development. President Obama said, “We want to make it easier to join students looking for jobs with businesses looking to hire. We want to put community colleges and employers together to create programs that match curricula in the classroom with the needs of the boardroom.” This charge is what we in continuing education at Pitt Community College do every day. We are the innovators that find morsels of job demands for workers, turn the need into training opportunities and deliver trained workers ready to meet the needs of the board rooms in as short as one semester. I challenge the employers to find the job demands and use our innovative abilities to increase workers' skills or train North Carolinians for those jobs. We are their new best hope. It is truly an exciting time for Continuing Education; we have a road map of determination blazed by those members from years past, one that set the bar for quality delivery the highest in the nation. We continue to strive to be the premiere, comprehensive, training service provider for Pitt County Residents. CONTINUING EDUCATION VS. CURRICULUM Differences between Continuing Education (ConEd) and Curriculum: • Continuing Education students are NOT required to submit an application for enrollment and do NOT need to obtain previous transcripts. • North Carolina residency is NOT required for ConEd classes • Registration for ConEd students is continuous throughout the year. Students may register for classes at any time before the class begins. • Whether your goal is a better job, personal enrichment, or developing new skills, PCC serves the community offering more than 300 continuing education courses.
