A: My name is Allyxihnue. What is your name?

Z: My name is Zahra. I don’t understand your name. Can you spell it? A: What is ”spell”?

Z: It is to say one letter at a time. – Use the alphabet.

Can I live in your garden?

AR

A: Yes, that is all right.

A: The alphabet?

The English alphabet starts with A and ends with Z. The alphabet helps us to spell or to say the name of each letter. We write A, and say: [e]. – My name is Zahra. We say [za:ra:] but we write Zahra. Z [zed] A [e] H [eʃ] R [a:r] A [e]

Z: Nice to meet you, Allie. A: Nice to meet you, Zahra. I must ask mum and dad.

Humans go to school. They are pupils or students when they are at school. Some humans are teachers. Today Zahra told me about her school. She has different subjects there: Languages, maths, science, art, PE, history, social studies and many more. Some of the subjects have special rooms. The teachers and pupils have breaks at school. They eat their lunch there and talk to their classmates, too. Pupils in the UK wear school uniforms, but in many other countries pupils can wear what they like at school.

A: I see… What does it do?

GS IN ER RD

A: Interesting. Is time important on Earth? Z: Very much so. We don’t like to be late.

A: So, that’s why everyone has a Little Ben on their hand and phone? Z: Oh! No, no! That’s not called a Little Ben. It’s a watch. The watch tells time. There is only one Big Ben and it is in London.

EK

A: Can you teach me how to tell the time?

Humans use clocks and calendars to tell the time. An hour is sixty minutes. A day has twenty-four hours. In English, a day has two times twelve hours. The first twelve hours are called AM. AM is at night and in the morning. PM hours are during the afternoon and in the evening. A week has seven days: five weekdays and the weekend (Saturday and Sunday). Most of the time, humans work on weekdays and relax at the weekends. Humans usually sleep at night and are awake during the day. Sometimes humans are up at night because they work. The pupils in Zahra’s class do not work but are tired in the mornings. Why is that? It is bad to be late for work or school. It is good to be on time. I think it is best to be early. And one more thing: What do humans mean when they say “time flies”? How can time fly and where does it go?
