There were several emails and shout outs on Facebook to LaToya and myself, but we didn’t do it alone. As always, I say that I have a great team and their names are listed on the following page. We started off 2014 with a bang and we are going to keep that momentum going! My team has been so busy that we literally have been a part of just about every event in the city. More often than not, I joke about not getting any sleep saying “I can sleep when I die”. My joke has turned into reality and we have turned an idea into a recognized brand. There have been several things going on in my personal life that has made it difficult to do what I love (my magazine), but through God’s grace and having good people behind me we are still bring you the best entertainment publication ever! Photography Make up by LaToya Nicole Page 16 G-Entertainment Magazine May/June 2014 As of late it seems like we have been to every fashion show or fashion event going on in and around the city. With all of these different things going on it can become overwhelming, but when you see to good people are doing it all seems worth it. There are several movements out there for women to empower themselves and other women around them. I have found that there are a lot of ladies out there with self esteem issues that are beautiful on the inside and out. Our very own Mrs. Jefferson County (Plus America) exemplifies this personal beauty and womanly strength. We had the opportunity to sit down and talk with her and this is what she had to say... Tell the readers a little about yourself? My name is Shatwaina A. Lester. I am originally from Chicago, IL.; however, I am a southern bell. I was raised most of my life here in Birmingham, AL. I was raised and educated in Walker County and Jefferson County schools. I graduated from Ensley High School. The wonderful class of 2004...I am the oldest of six kids and I am married to Sgt. Carl Lester. I am also an entrepreneur. Would you tell the readers about the pageant that you were in? Yes, of course. I am now apart of the Alabama Mrs. Plus America system were I am a delegate for the 2014 Alabama Mrs. Plus America Pageant. It will be held in March right here in Birmingham, AL. I am Mrs. Jefferson County Plus America 2014 and I will be running for Mrs. Plus America. My platform for the pageant is PCOS...Persistent Creative Outlook on Self (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome). Would you tell the readers the difference between the plus size pageants and any other pageants that they may be used to seeing? Yes, in the Ms. Plus America Pageant one thing is these ladies have the opportunity to promote something that they are passionate about. PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) is something that I deal with everyday. That’s something that I’m passionate about, I’m able to speak on it, I’m able to educate people on it...as well as give my own personal experience about it. With this pageant system its more about work, community service, giving and loving people. As well as uplifting the full-figured woman. Learn to love your curves, learn to love the skin that your in...your beautiful. That’s something different. Its not just based on beauty as a whole. Its based on education, its based on self confidence and it based on service. When you first heard about the pageant, what prompted you to get involved in it? Well Harold honestly, I wanted to do it, but I was afraid. I felt like I didn’t have enough background in pageantry. I was looking at everything that I didn’t have versus everything that I m capble of. What I had to look at is I ws alredy doing everything that I am doing now. The only difference is that its enhanced. I’m asked to do more G-Entertainment Magazine May/June 2014 Page 17 When is the show again? Marche 7th and 8th and the BJCC. How can people reach you for other shows etc? You can contact my personal assistant Beyonca Miller at firstname.lastname@example.org. Like my facebook page mrsjeffersoncountyplusamerica2014 and find me on Instagram mrsjeffco_daceo Do you have any shout outs? I would love to send special shout out to all of my sister queens, especially the 2014 delegates. I love those girls. Phillip and Marcella...all of the former queens, my family and friends, especially my husband Sgt. Big Daddy Carl Lester (laughing). I love you too. Things, I’m invited to more things. I would’ve never guessed that you were afraid to do this. Yes, I was afraid. I didn’t have the confidence to actually do it. I did have a conversation with the director and he eased that really fast. What type of doors have been opened for you? I have been introduced and participate with several director boards of different organizations. I will not disclose which organizations. I’ve been asked to participate in several other pageants as a judge and MC. Also, giving my experiences and insight on the Alabama Ms. Plus America Pageant System. I really don’t keep track.. numerous blog/vlog sites. I think any urban model that can list everything she's done is a bit cocky. Measurements: 44E - 34 - 42 Where are you from? Jamaica/ NY /FT Lauderale What part of your body do you consider your best asset? What sets you apart from others in your profession? I've been told my personality. I'm very upbeat and easy going... very polite and respectable though I may not look the part. What made you want to get into the industry? I grew up around a lot of artists, I started out as a muse and later on started runway modeling - trained by former Ms World 1993 Lisa Hannah. As I grew into my body I started doing artistic expressions and now glam, boudoir, lingerie etc... I became way sexier than I ever anticipated! Do you have any upcoming projects that you would like to discuss? At the moment, I am going through a rebranding process, I am looking to stretch my boundaries,, I limited myself in the past and now I am reintroducing Dee to the world. Have you been in any other magazines or videos? If so, which ones? I've been too shy to do videos as the lead but I have made a few cameos in some dancehall videos. I am planning on branching out into that soon... I might not look it but I am shy. I have been in I'd say my eyes or my lips, in person I've been told I do some sultry things expressions that I don’t even notice... others would say my boobs. What is your guilty pleasure? My guilty pleasure is... a very warm bubble bath, a extra large bottle of white wine, some fruit and a good movie. I don’t get to indulge in anything much but when I do I go all in. Usually afterwards I go to bed. Crazy right? Not really. That sounds good. What is your biggest turn off? My biggest turn off is low self esteem, that and bad breath or dirty teeth... ew, I'm a kisser.. I love making out, so if I get the slightest notion, I’m gone with the wind! How can people reach you to book you for shows etc.? firstname.lastname@example.org Do you have any shout outs? Mofia and his AWESOMENESS for allowing me my vision!! G-Entertainment Magazine May/June 2014 Page 33 Page 34 G-Entertainment Magazine May/June 2014 We had the opportunity to interview one of the most talented artists in the South, PreD-Boi Slim. He is a real cool guy and down to Earth. Where are you from? Birmingham, Al. West Side What made you want to get into the industry? I really didn’t have a choice. I come from a family of musicians. My grandmother taught piano lessons in the house I grew up in, so that was my first of a long list of instruments that I play. I went to Alabama State University where my major was performance. That's when I discovered who I was and what I was sent here to do. How long have you been making music? I started making music around 2000. I was in a couple local rap groups until 2005 when I started Inner G House Entertainment. It’s been a long road and I thank God for all my experiences good and bad. It has molded me into the man I am today. What sets you apart from other artists? What sets me apart from others is that I'm multifaceted. I'm a writer, singer, producer. I own my label which is Inner G House Entertainment. I own OGC Publishing Company and most importantly I own all my songs. When it comes to music, I do it for two rea- G-Entertainment Magazine May/June 2014 Page 38 G-Entertainment Magazine May/June 2014 sons. First, is for the love of music and secondly because I AM the beginning and end of it. You said that you own a publishing company. What type of publishing do you do? Yes, my publishing company name is OGC Publishing LLC. I stared OGC in 2009. Publishing is a very important part of the music industry. One day I hope to publish more than music, but right now I am strictly a music publisher. How long have you been doing that? I've been doing publishing for 5 years now. It's pretty tedious work, but the end results are worth it. Do you have any upcoming projects that you would like to discuss? Yes, I have a mix-tape releasing on April 1st, 2014 called PRED-BOI SLIM.COM (pretty boy). It's going to be that heat for the summer. I got to work with some talented guys on this project and I think it will show. How can people reach you to book you for shows etc.? email@example.com Do you have any shout outs? Of course. Shout out to Majestic Drama, Arjae Knox, Scott Styles, VT, Nyck Paul, Track Officialz, Track Gods, A1 Snow Yoda, Al Pachino and to everyone who supports independent artist's and music. Facial toner also tightens and brightens the skin. 11 12 11 & 12– Next, follow up you toner by applying a moisturizing eye cream with your ring finger using a light tapping motion. Be sure not to rub that area because it is very sensitive, so, abrasive application can cause capillaries to burst, which in turn can cause dark circles. The eye cream is a must have to provide moisture to the eye area, which decreases wrinkles, dark circles, and fine lines.
