PLUG INTO FUMC How to Join At First United Methodist Church we seek to be a community of Christ followers. You do not have to join the church to participate in worship, classes, missions and ministries. But if you would like to make a commitment to begin or continue your journey with Christ, membership is an excellent way to live out this covenant. For more information about membership contact Rev. Membership Expectations Attend worship regularly Participate in at least one class, retreat, study, or spiritual formation event each year Serve in a ministry or mission Make a financial commitment to the church 4-Step Membership Process Step 1: Contact Christy Sharp (christy@hvlfumc.org, 828.693.4275) Step 2: Attend Plugged In Session This introduction to First United Methodist Church (FUMC) is an informal way to learn more about the church. The session includes information about the United Methodist Church, expectations for membership, and a question and answer time. Step 3: Meet with a Volunteer Coordinator This is a 20 minute session on a Sunday morning. It is an opportunity to get connected to a ministry or mission that interests you! Step 4: Take membership vows in worship You are invited to join First United Methodist Church at the worship service you regularly attend. We also host a luncheon for our new members on New Member Sundays at 12:15pm. Ways to Join •
Profession of faith -- a first-time commitment to Christ through the sacrament of baptism

Reaffirmation of faith -- a reaffirmation of your commitment to Christ

Transfer of membership from another United Methodist church
•
Transfer of membership from another denomination
•
Affiliate membership - for United Methodists who have membership in a nonlocal United Methodist Church, but wish to officially connect with First United Methodist Church as well.

Associate membership - For those who have membership in a nonlocal church of another denomination, but wish to officially connect with First United Methodist Church as well.
