• The alerting of candidates to the values observed in specific professions and their relationship to the values they themselves respect. • The development of skills pertaining to adequate self-evaluation and the presentation of one’s professional aptitude. On 1 September 2008, a city career-guidance methodology advisor was appointed at the Warsaw Centre for Educational and Social Innovation and Training. As of the school year 2008/2009, the methodology advisor organised and staged training courses for lower- and upper- secondaryschool career advisors, counsellors, psychologists, teachers and heads. The courses drew great interest from participants, this attesting to the need to continue with these activities, which have included: • an information and training conference entitled Vocational Education Development Prospects in Warsaw, attended by 90 vocational and lower-secondary-school teachers and heads; • two information and training conferences entitled Career Guidance in Lower Secondary Schools, attended by 2000 participants, including lower-secondary-school heads, career advisors and teachers; • a series of methodology workshops for lower-secondary-school career advisors, form teachers and counsellors, entitled Creating One’s Image: Whim or Necessity?, How to Set and Achieve Targets and Finding Information Needed to Choose a Profession; • a methodology workshop entitled The Form Teacher as Career Advisor for Third Grade Lower Secondary School Students, attended by 180 form and subject teachers of third grade students from lowersecondary schools in Warsaw (nine editions); • model lessons for third-grade lower-secondary-school students on topics like Planning Your Educational and Professional Career, What We Need to Know about the Professions We Are Interested in or Think before You Choose (ten meetings); • a seminar entitled How to Help Children in Choosing Their Careers for lower-secondary-school teachers and parents; • a seminar entitled Career Guidance Programmes in Lower Secondary Schools in Ochota District, for school counsellors and career advisors from lower secondary schools in Ochota District; • other teacher–training, aimed at enhancing professional skills, for example The Gifted Student in the Labour market, Discover a Talent within Yourself and An Upper Secondary School Graduate’s Capacity in an Information Society. The city career-guidance methodology advisor took part in the organising of a career guidance desk for lower–secondary-school students at the Praga District School Exchange; as well as in the issuing of opinions on career-orientation programmes in lower-secondary schools and counselling services. The Education Department of the Capital City of Warsaw Municipal Office organised a postgraduate programme called Career Guidance for school teachers in Warsaw, as part of a project co-funded by the EU within the Human Capital Operational Programme. In 2011, twenty teachers completed the study programme.
