FRANNY AND ZOOEY BY J.D. SALINGER

4/5

THE STORY

Franny and Zooey Glass are two twenty-something siblings from an ultra-dysfunctional family. Franny is a jaded coed who is soon to suffer an emotional breakdown. Zooey is her intelligent and emotionally-distant older brother, who tries to help resolve her existential crisis in his own unique, philosophical way.

WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT

Short and sweet, this quirky story was originally published in The New Yorker before it became a novel. A frequent fixture in Salinger’s literary world, the wealthy Glass family epitomizes the kind of eccentric and eclectic individuals you’d only find in the Upper East Side, and it’s fascinating to try to decipher the true meaning behind the reclusive author’s words.

It all leads to an eventual meeting with her absent mother, as well as the man who first found her on those steps so many years ago.
