JBLM youth ‘traveled’ world with the Summer Reading Program

Events at McChord Library The McChord Library, located at 851 Lincoln Blvd., hosts weekly storytime throughout the year (during the Summer Reading Program, there’s even more offered for young readers and prereaders, plus teens and adults). In addition to the stories, activities and crafts offered, McChord Library also hosts fun and educational seminars on a variety of topics. Check out this month’s free options:

The JBLM libraries would like to extend a big thank you to all of the summer readers and their Families for participating in the Summer Reading Program! Hundreds of children joined in the fun at Book Patch and McChord libraries during June, July and August. We read stories, made toilet paper nunchucks, Chinese lanterns, Egyptian headdresses and crowns, pirate swords and so much more! The kids completed many hours of reading, and everyone was successful during “Have Book — Will Travel.” Everyone who completes all three reading levels is invited to the event

grand finales — McChord Library at Tuesday, Aug. 6. and Book Patch Library’s at Grandstaff Library Wednesday, Aug. 7 from 1–3 p.m. and Stop by for some food and fun! Book Patch Thursday storytime will come to an end as the kids go back to school. The last day is Thursday, Aug. 29 at 10:30 a.m. Join us for our year-round Family story time Wednesday mornings at 10:30. You’ll have a great time reading silly stories, singing songs and making a fun craft. Check in with your libraries for Teen Read Week in October and December’s Winter Reading Program.

Can I get a degree online? How do I apply? Credits? Tuition? Get the answers to these questions and more at College 101. It’s offered Thursday, Aug. 15 at noon. A second session is hosted at the Grandstaff Library Thursday, Aug. 22 at noon.

Get creative in crochet class Hard to believe, but fall is on the way. Help your Family prepare for colder weather in style — learn to make your own hats and scarves Thursdays, Aug. 22–Sept. 12 at 4:30 p.m. This class is open to everyone 12 years and older. Supplies will be provided. Registration begins Thursday, Aug. 1.

Take the important step of estate planning Meet with an ACS/Survivor Outreach Services counselor at the McChord Library and get tips to ensure that your heirs get what they should. Plus, learn how to minimize your tax liabilities and how to prepare for the possibility of long-term care and what affects that could have on your estate. The class is Wednesday, Aug. 21 at 10:30 a.m. Additional dates are Wednesdays, Sept. 25 (noon) and Oct. 23 (2 p.m.).
