The designation recognizes training, policies and procedures intended to ensure that Sugar Land dispatchers are ready to respond to reports of missing, abducted or exploited children. Steps to achieve NCMEC partnership status include: • completion of NCMEC training for call center managers or directors; • formal training of all 9-1-1 telecommunicators in best practices for handling of calls for missing and/or sexually exploited children; and • formal adoption of the American National Standards Institute's approved standard for public safety telecommunicators Second Mile Mission Center needs your help This time of year we hear a lot about "Black Friday," the day after Thanksgiving when record-breaking retail sales ensure that stores will break even for the year. In a similar way, the month of December is "Black December" for Second Mile Mission Center. Throughout the year, Second Mile is busy meeting the needs of thousands of people in our community. They ask for financial support to fuel these efforts primarily in April during their banquet - and then at the calendar year-end. Your generous donation at this time of year helps ensure that Second Mile will meet its operating budget. Finishing the year strong means we can continue to serve the increasing number of families-in-need in Fort Bend County in the new year. They need $244,000 to end the year in the black, so your tax-deductible year-end gift is greatly needed at this time. Make your gift online at or you can mail a check to Second Mile Mission Center, 504 FM 1092, Suite I, Stafford, Texas, 77477. They will reach this big goal one blessing at a time. Your gift in any amount will help bring life change to our neediest neighbors in Fort Bend County. Thousands rely upon Second Mile as a safe place to get their physical needs met while learning about Christ. Second thing... In addition to serving 80+ families a day this holiday season, Second Mile will be packing up and relocating to a new leased facility on South Main (Highway 90) near Texas Parkway. Your gift now will help us end the year in the black and cover one-time moving expenses. Through God's provision, their rent will be the same as in their current facility! Second Mile will be a place of hope for our neighbors for years to come. Please make your donation today to help us reach the black by the end of 2012. Your financial contribution in the amount of $100, $250, $500, $1000, $2500 or more now will help them meet this important goal. Please take a moment to donate now. "The Sugar Land Public Safety Dispatch Center has created a child-centered 9-1-1 system based on the belief that there is nothing more important to their community than protecting children," said William Hinkle, the Child Centered 911 Missing Kids Readiness Project chair. "Through their achievement, (they) have demonstrated a commitment to improving the standard of care for the children in our cities and towns across the nation." Whether responding to reports of missing children, fires, highway accidents or medical calls for help, Sugar Land's public safety dispatchers are part of a highly trained team of responders. When citizens call for help, they're the voice on the other end of the line, ready to help 24/7. The nature of a call for assistance determines the type of equipment and personnel needed to mitigate the situation. Their ability to size up situations and allocate the appropriate resources under high stress situations is crucial during emergencies. For 9-1-1 emergencies, citizens should provide dispatchers with the purpose of the call, the location of the emergency and a phone contact. This information is especially important for cell phone callers, as 9-1-1 calls are routed to the dispatch center in the area where the cell phone service originates. Dispatchers also handle calls for non-emergency service at 281- 275-2020. If in doubt as to whether a call for service qualifies as an emergency, just call 9-1-1.
