Three arrested in shooting of Stafford Police Officer ARRESTED, continued from page 1

On the afternoon of October 31, Stafford authorities held the press conference seeking the public’s help. Less than 24 hours later suspect Freddy Henriquez was in custody based on a concerned citizen’s tip and the assistance of the Houston Police Department. Stafford Police Lieutenant Dustin Claborn said, “The initial call came into the Harris County Constable Precinct 5 and was transferred

to our investigator. The caller identified Freddy Henriquez as an individual that had come to their church looking for help and a place to stay. Recognizing him, the caller initiated contact with law enforcement. Coordinating with the caller, investigators checked a residence in Houston for the fugitive and discovered he had left and gone to a church in the 7300 block of Ashcroft in Houston.” Using that information Henriquez was taken into custody by HPD SWAT without incident

at 12:46 a.m. on the morning of November 1. Claborn went on to explain, “Subsequent investigation indicates Henrequez’ intended to hide utilizing churches for 2-3 months, then assuming a new identity and remaining in the country.” Then later that day, a Crime Stoppers tip led to the arrest of the third suspect Daniel Cruz. In that arrest Stafford officers coordinated again with the Houston Police Department

Meetings reveal preferences for fixing capacity issues at Fort Bend ISD schools A steering committee, made up of over 100 community stakeholders, has been meeting to help craft the two plans. "The work we're doing has to do with looking at the entire district and all of our facilities and to figure out how we're going to prepare our students for a 21st century workforce", said Fort Bend ISD Superintendent Charles Dupre. Jacobs Engineering was hired by the district to conduct a comprehensive facilities assessment which will look at everything from roofs to technology gaps to

classroom square footage. "One of the key elements of the facilities assessment is educational adequacy--how space meets educational needs. Do our buildings deliver what we need them to deliver?", said Tracy Richter of Dejong-Richter, an educational consultant hired by the district to oversee the steering committee and community input process. In the surveys, attendees selected "declining educational adequacy" as the main deterrent in the district achieving its mission, vision and goal. Declining condition of schools, capacity issues and special programs that are not offered at

every campus also scored high. Surveys also indicated that the ideal capacity for elementary schools should be no more than 150 students per grade; no more than 400 students per grade in middle school; and no more than 600 students per grade in high school. Two more community dialogue meetings will be held in December. The Board of Trustees will vote on the facilities master plan and the district's strategic plan in February. The elementary school boundary plan discussions will begin in mid-February. In addition, a comprehensive web survey will be available the first two weeks of December.

and threatened to tell someone what he was doing to her. In June of 2012 when LopezMartinez was no longer able to get to the child, within about 3 weeks she confided in her aunt about the abuse. Investigations were initiated where upon evidence of continued sexual abuse of a child was confirmed. At trial, the young victim

testified before a jury and her abuser about the many years of sexual abuse she endured at the hands Humberto LopezMartinez. “That little girl was so brave and so strong to endure the abuse in order to, in her mind, keep her family safe,” said Assistant District Attorney Jill Stotts, “And then again to tell her story to keep other children safe from the same sexual abuse

some family ties, they appear to be binding… on the community. We are being told of an officer who likes to throw his power around. He uses his badge to … bully. Really? We don’t even allow that in schools anymore. This kind of behavior can only flourish if it is acceptable to those running the operation. Administrators, you listening? You have a problem. When the public even feels oppressed by an officer, it binds those family ties. Imagine if a citizen has the gall to say something to that offending officer – when he is behaving badly – off duty, and they are shown the badge? Really? Then imagine that citizen having the guts to call and complain, only to get hold of the offensive officer’s brother-

in-law? Nada, nothing, no help at all…the behavior goes unchecked. But wait, now they want the victim to file a formal complaint, in yet another division of the same agency, but then you get offensive officer’s sister. Oh well, maybe a complaint can be made at a county wide agency, oops, there you have yet another sister. Honestly, maybe it’s time to rethink this family thing. Heck, over at the Sheriff’s Office, they have entire families

that she had suffered. She is a hero,” Stotts said. The jury in this case deliberated less than two hours. They sentenced LopezMartinez to 38 years in prison without the possibility for parole. Assistant District Attorneys Jill Stotts and Lisa P. Gregg prosecuted the case. Attorney Sid Crowley represented Lopez-Martinez.

on the payroll. The problem with the whole family employment act being done by these west side agencies is that when a problem arises, there will always be questions about the way the problem was handled. Heck, this one punk is destroying the reputation of his father; he NEVER acted like that! Time for cop dynasty’s to start woop’n their toddlers and teach them right from wrong.
