FBISD offers summer band & orchestra camps to middle school students
With plans already underway, organizers of the International Festival of Fort Bend (IFFB) recently met at the Sugar Land Branch Library. The annual event is set to take place at the Stafford Centre this fall with the City of Stafford serving as the major co-sponsor. Kick-off plans for the multi-ethnic celebration of cultural diversity in Fort Bend County include a colorful pageantry of events and savory foods representing a sampling of the world. IFFB President Nazy Khadivian (center) welcomes volunteers, who are asked to call 8327462098 about participating and contributing to festival. Middle school students who have a love of music are invited to attend Fort Bend ISD’s 2012 Band and Orchestra Camps. The camps will operate July 9-19, from 7:30 am to 12:00 pm, Monday through Thursday at Sartartia Middle School, 8125 Homeward Way, Sugar Land. The instrumental music camps will offer students the opportunity to perform in large ensembles and in small sectional rehearsals of like instruments, under the direction of music teachers. Students will also receive instruction in sight-reading, basic theory and rhythm study. The camps will conclude with a public
concert, which will be held Thursday, July 19 at 7:00 pm. Enrollment is open to students who have completed grades 6, 7, or 8 or who have completed at least one year of musical training on their instrument. Camp fees are $85 for Fort Bend ISD students and $100 for out-of-district students. Registration forms are available online at www. fortbendisd.com/departments/ academics/fine-arts/.
