Medication Management for Bell’s Palsy

Bell’s palsy is a condition characterized by a sudden loss of weakness in the muscles of the face. Typically, one side of the face becomes drooped, one eye stays open, and the smile is crooked. It may take weeks to six months for a full recovery and rarely, some people may continue to have these symptoms for life. Bell’s palsy may occur as a reaction to certain viral infections. The nerve that connects signals to the face becomes inflamed and cannot send signals such as tear production, taste, or hearing difficulties correctly. The condition sometimes occurs in pregnant women and people who are suffering from a flu or cold that affects the nose or throat. Since Bell’s palsy is temporary, there is rarely a need for daily treat ment. Corticosteroids such as prednisone may be taken to help reduce inflammation in the face. Over-the-counter (OTC) pain medications such as acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil) may be taken to help reduce the pain. For severe forms of Bell’s palsy that is caused by a virus, a doctor may prescribe acyclovir (Zorivax) or valacyclovir (Valtrex). To help reduce any inflammation to the affected eye, lubricating eye drops should be applied to the affected eye in the day and an ointment applied at night to help keep the eye moist.

One-Way Pairs special election On May 10, Rosenberg residents will be voting on whether the city should donate land for the project. A “yes” vote will prohibit the City of Rosenberg from donating land to TxDOT. A “no” vote will allow the land to be donated. Donating land for the project is an issue because cities need to pay 10% of the right-of-way costs for any farm-to-market or state highway project. On February 25, Fort Bend County Commissioners Court

approved a $1.5M advanced funding agreement that would allow TxDOT to buy the land, eliminating the need to donate the property. According to TxDOT, the project would require approximately 8.5 acres of additional right-of-way and would impact a residence, a church and several businesses. Phase 1 is projected to cost $5 million and could begin this fall. Phase 2, is currently unfunded but is projected to cost $20 million. TxDOT will receive public comments through April 22.

between U.S. 59 and IH 10 will relieve traffic on the feeder roads in an area that continues to expand commercially and residentially. Managed by Fort Bend County through the Fort Bend Toll Road Authority, the improvements to Segment D with the nine new overpasses, bridges and seven toll locations include about 18 miles of new main lane pavement costing $2.45 to drive on the entire tolled section one-way and less

for traveling on sections of the road. Access to motorists on roads without tolls, however, remains in the same area as a free option with traffic lights at some locations, just as feeder roads operate. As it continues to improve traffic mobility, Fort Bend County is reportedly working on designs on another segment of the Grand Parkway to connect U.S. 59 in Sugar Land to Highway 288 for an eventual hook up to the Fort Bend Parkway in Missouri City.
