KREHMEIER Gloria (Tuggie) Krehmeier, 83, passed away in Sugar Land, Texas, following a brief illness. Visitation is scheduled at Sugar Land Mortuary, 1818 Eldridge Road on Saturday, April 5th from 9:30am to 11:30am. Graveside services will follow at 12:00pm at Morton Cemetery, Richmond, Texas. Gloria was born August 30, 1930 in Sugar Land, Texas to Robert and Nona Laperouse. She was baptized at Saint Theresa Catholic Church. Gloria graduated from Sugar Land High School in 1948. That same year, Gloria married her late husband, Bill Krehmeier. Gloria and Bill were married 63 years. Many knew Gloria affectionately as Mom, Granny, or Tuggie. Gloria had a zest for life that never waivered. She loved being outdoors, enjoying coffee on the pier overlooking the lake each morning with her husband. She was an avid fisherman and kept a small tackle kit in her kitchen drawer, ready to fish at any moment with a grandchild. The catfish that swam under the pier were well fed, as were the squirrels and dove that lived in her yard. Gloria never missed a trip to the beach with her family. In earlier years, she taught swimming lessons to many Sugar Land youngsters in her backyard pool. She ran 5ks in Houston later in life, often finishing in the top 3 finishers. In addition to being a homemaker, Gloria worked at Hughes Tool, Acme Brass and as an Imperial Sugar Company Tour Guide. She was extremely proud of her Sugar Land heritage; her father was the chemist at the sugar refinery. She was also a Realtor for several years. She was a fixture in the school carpool lanes shuttling grandkids between school, CCE, scouts and athletic events.

The danger with the 1200 school districts in Texas coming up with their own way to judge the criteria, is the tendency to want skew the results in a positive way, said Dupre. "One of the biggest discussions we've had is how to handle this in a legitimate manner", Dupre said. "But we felt at this stage in the district's transition, that we wanted to get honest feedback. If there is work that we need to do in

one of these areas, we need to know". The district provided a parent survey in order to collect additional data that will help the House Bill 5 committee create a way to measure the new accountability standards. The district must have their ratings to the TEA by June 26. The district will make their results public on August 8 and the TEA makes the results public on October 3.

Sugar Land P & Z approves St. Laurence expansion plan to go down 10% to 15%. "I cannot get over the fact that putting this building in this place is going to cost these property owners", said Commissioner Sue Sanchez. Commissioner Joan Berger said that putting a commercial sized building in a residential area is wrong and goes against the redevelopment plan that Sugar Land has for its older areas. "I had really hoped St.

Laurence would come forward with an alternate location that would conceal the parking", Berger said. St. Laurence had applied for a CUP because the property is now in a standard single-family residential district. There are two existing buildings on the site that were in operation prior to the land being annexed by the City of Sugar Land and the area being zoned residential.

developer to act responsibly,” said the mayor. City Administrator C.J. Snipes said that’s what “makes the situation frustrating for the city,” noting how Fulshear is one of the fastest growing communities in Fort Bend County with commercial development on its way. Snipes further said that “in this particular instance we are at a complete disadvantage because we don’t even have the ability to guide the development; while at the same time we have an impassioned constituency concerned about the impact on our community.”

and Montgomery are a few of the districts in Texas that have made the switch. The cost being considered for this project, which includes a new track surrounding the field, is $1,700,000. The following pros and cons were discussed at the meeting. The Pros: Playing consistency. Quicker drainage. Fertilization and pesticides not required. Repairs are seldom needed. Prestriped for multiple sports (in different colors). The Cons: Heat. In July and August in the middle of the day, temperatures can reach 150 degrees and should not be used. The average lifetime of the turf field is 8 years. Interesting fact: Artificial turf first gained substantial attention in 1966 when it was used in the newly constructed Astrodome; hence the name “Astroturf.” It’s come a long way since then, there’s even a hybrid some professional stadiums are using, but according to SMSD Athletic Director, Ron Counter, there are “fewer injuries with today’s turf” as compared with natural grass. Prior to her resignation as CFO, Carle Merka, stated that it would take the District five years to see money saved on maintenance after the initial purchase. Replacement cost for the turf is around $350K. In order for this project to be completed in time for the 2014-15 football season (barring excessive weather conditions), this will need to be voted on and passed by the Board of Trustees in May.
