For contributing in a decisive manner to raising and promoting the image of Spain by holding management posts in key international bodies, such as his current role as EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy and his previous role as Secretary General of NATO.
For his excellent business management skills at the head of the Ferrovial Group as CEO since 2000. He has set a clear standard to Spanish infrastructure and service business with its presence in the main international markets.
For being the Spanish publishing group that has made the greatest contribution to disseminating the image of Spain abroad throught its flagship periodicals Hola! in Latin America, and Hello! published in the United Kingdom, Canada, Russia, Mexico, Turkey, India, Greece, Arab Emirates, Malaysia, Thailand and Serbia.
For his work as head of the International Health Centre at the Hospital Clinic in Barcelona and in particular for his work at the Manhiça Health Research Centre in Mozambique from where he has promoted massive vaccination programmes against malaria.
For being, in the Jury’s opinion, one of the greatest exponents of Spanish culture in the enormously diverse and extensive world of film, and for his established career as an innovative and avant-garde filmmaker.
For being the most famous Spanish Football Club, with a long history of international success and for projecting an image of Spain as a top competitor in the arena of world sport.
For his important contribution to research in the fight against cancer and his significant international work. He is currently the most famous Spanish scientist beyond our borders, serving as Chairman of the Cancer Biology and Genetics Programme of the Sloan-Kettering Institute in New York, and member of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States, among other posts.
