CHILD PHYSICAL ABUSE INFORMATION & SPECIMEN COLLECTION KIT
This kit was developed to assist in the documentation of cases of suspected child physical abuse. SUSPECT DNA BUCCAL SWAB COLLECTION KIT This Buccal Swab Collection Kit is the least intrusive of the series of Suspect DNA Specimen Collection Kits and is designed for use by non-medical personnel. The cotton-tipped swabs are placed in the subject’s mouth and the inside of the cheek is vigorously swabbed, resulting in the transfer of buccal cells onto the cotton bulb of the swab. SIMPLIFIED COLLECTION PROCEDURE 1 After putting on the Nitrile barrier gloves provided in the kit, the collector lightly moistens the swab with the distilled water provided in the kit, then swabs the suspected stain which transfer the stain to the swab bulb.
2 The swab(s) are placed in a swab box, which is placed in a swab envelope and sealed. Each envelope contains information pertaining to the swab(s) such as case numbers, collected by, date and time of collection, type of sample, and where the stain was collected.

After repeating this procedure on all stains at the crime scene, the swabs are then placed in the kit envelope.
4 The investigator then fills out the chain of custody printed on the front of the kit envelope, seals the kit with the evidence seal provided in preparation for transportation for analysis.

Child Identification Kit
Child safety is a concern of parents, communities and police. When a child is reported missing, law enforcement agencies require accurate and current information about the child as quickly as possible in order to begin a search. However, in most cases, parents are so distraught they have difficulty in answering even simple questions concerning their child. The Child Identification Kit is designed to eliminate these problems by providing police with photographs, thumbprints and other pertinent information to assist in a rapid recovery of a missing or abducted child. The kit also collects DNA saliva specimens which, in a worst-case scenario, would be used to make a positive identification of the child’s remains. The Child Identification Kit is kept by the parent/ guardian for safekeeping and only given to the police if the child is reported missing or abducted.

Gunshot Residue Evidence Collection Kits
During the discharge of a firearm, escaping gases from the weapon deposit gunshot residue (GSR) on the skin of the shooter’s hands, on the clothing of the shooter, and on other objects located in closest proximity to the shooter. Included in this gaseous cloud of residue are particles composed primarily of primer residue. Primer compositions may vary with different types of ammunition and different manufacturers, but the most common constituents of primers have been lead styphnate, barium nitrates, and antimony sulphide. Analysis and characterization of the residue for the trace elements (lead, barium and antimony) are used to indicate if a suspect has fired, handled, or been in close proximity to a weapon when it was fired.
The efficient and reliable removal of GSR particles from hands and/or clothing is critical in preserving GSR evidence for analysis in the laboratory. The GSR-AA (Atomic Absorption) and GSR-SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy) Gunshot Residue Evidence Collection Kits and supplies shown in this section have been specifically designed to meet the needs of both the laboratory analyst and the collecting officer in the field. GSR-SEM STUB INFORMATION All SEM kits shown in this catalogue are supplied with our standard “C” stubs which are made from ultra pure aluminium with the entire collecting surface covered with double-sided adhesive carbon tape.
“C” Stub
We also supply two other types of stubs (“D” and “Q”), which can be supplied in custom designed GSR Evidence Collection Kits or in the collection vials offered on page 20 Please call for additional information.
Our “D” stub and “Q” stub were developed to meet the specific needs of two of our customers and are now being used by agencies throughout the world for the following reasons: A)
Both “D” and “Q” stubs are colour-coded to correspond with the coloured label affixed to the protective plastic vial. This colour-coding of the stub and vial label assures the analyst that the SEM stub has been returned to the correct vial by the collecting officer after GSR collection.
B)
Both “D” & “Q” stubs have a unique control number etched on the stub. (Note: unique control numbers, not sequentially numbered)
C)
The “D” stub’s shaved side and the “Q” stub’s etched mark are used for registration/orientation to aid the analyst if the stub needs to be analyzed again or is sent to another laboratory for confirmation.

POSTMORTEM SEXUAL ASSAULT EVIDENCE COLLECTION KIT
The Postmortem Sexual Assault Evidence Collection Kit is designed for use by medical examiners/coroners with deceased victims. This kit is based on the design of the RE-1MS (see page …), however, several changes have been incorporated to eliminate confusion at the time of evidence collection and assure the laboratory receives uniform evidence for analysis.
