ACTOR MARKETING STRATEGIES

Formerly : THTR 43G Advisory: Concurrent enrollment in THTR 81; THTR 43A; Instructor approval based on audition/interview. May be taken 3 times for credit. 1.5 hours lecture, 1.5 hours laboratory (36 hours total per quarter) Developing effective marketing strategies for a career in theatre. The actor’s process in preparation for theatrical auditions, selection of appropriate audition performance pieces, the presentation of self in various audition settings, and the development of industry standard self-promotion materials. Performance will include at least two prepared monologues, and multiple cold reading and prepared sides with a focus on stage auditioning. [FHGE: Non-GE; Transferable: CSU]

FILM & TELEVISION ACTING WORKSHOP

Advisory: Instructor approval based on audition/ interview. Corequisite: Completion of or concurrent enrollment in THTR 81. May be taken 3 times for credit. 3 hours lecture, 3 hours laboratory. (72 hours total per quarter) Application of concepts developed in the stage acting classes with the necessary adaptations required for film and television performance. Work with the variety of styles currently used in film and television, including commercial, dramatic, documentary and industrial. FILM & TELEVISION ACTING CAREER PREPARATION

Advisory: Instructor approval based on audition/ interview. Corequisite: Completion of or concurrent enrollment in THTR 81. May be taken 3 times for credit. 1.5 hours lecture, 1.5 hours laboratory (36 hours total per quarter) This class prepares the actor for a career in film and television. Class time will be divided between lecture and on-camera time to learn and experiment with subject matter. Performance will include improvisation, cold-reading and prepared script work as it pertains to commercial, dramatic and industrial styles currently used within the medium. Students will practice a variety of different possible auditioning scenarios and strategies, and develop appropriate self-promotion materials. [FHGE: Non-GE; Transferable: CSU]

CONTEMPORARY ISSUES IN PERFORMANCE SEMINAR

Advisory: Instructor approval based on audition/interview. May be taken 6 times for credit. 1 hour lecture, .5 hours laboratory. (18 hours total per quarter) A seminar in directed readings, discussions, performance analysis and projects encompassing contemporary performance trends and the business of the entertainment industry. DIRECTED FIELD STUDY IN THEATRE

Advisory: Enrollment is limited to six times within the THTR 85 group. May be taken 6 times for credit. .5 hours lecture, 2 hours laboratory for each unit of credit. (30–120 hours total per quarter) In-depth, intensive field study experience in a selected major center of theatrical production, such as London or New York. Attendance at professional theatre productions; meeting with playwrights, directors, designers, choreographers, actors and critics; touring backstage facilities, costume and scenic studios, and theatrical history museums and exhibits. A laboratory course in Summer Stock stage production. Acting, lighting, costuming, scene design, set construction, properties, make-up will be investigated in a practical setting. THEATRE WORKSHOP

Prerequisite: Enrollment subject to audition. Advisory: Pass/No Pass; enrollment is limited to six times within the THTR 97 group. May be taken 6 times for credit. 1 hour lecture-laboratory, 2 hour laboratory for each unit of credit. (36–216 hours total per quarter) A course in performance and/or rehearsal of varied dramatic forms designed for public performance of original, established or touring works. All aspects of theatre may be covered, including acting, directing, playwriting, lighting, costuming, scene design, set construction and make-up for the theatre. Students will prepare for staged productions for public performance in potentially differing spaces. [FHGE: Non-GE; Transferable: UC/CSU]

May be taken 6 times for credit. 1.5 hours lecture-laboratory, 7.5 hours laboratory for 3 units of credit. (108–216 hours total per quarter) A laboratory course in stage production, culminating in a practical theatre production. Areas of study and investigation include acting voice and diction, movement, dance, theatre styles, stage management and stage crafts. INTRODUCTION TO VETERINARY TECHNOLOGY

1.5 Units

Prerequisite: Admission to the Veterinary Technology Program. Advisory: Pass/No Pass. May be taken 6 times for credit. 1 hour lecture-laboratory. (12 hours total per quarter) A series of three-hour lectures, lecture-demonstrations, multimedia presentations, live demonstrations, or hands-on workshops presented once monthly (three times per quarter) by the instructor, professionals in veterinary medicine, veterinary technology, or the animal health-related fields. A variety of content is presented in order to provide current topical and practical information in the animal care field. Guest presenters will include veterinarians, specialists, veterinary technicians, animal handlers, administrative professionals and educators. All veterinary technology students are required to enroll each quarter, but the seminar may be taken by any student for personal interest. Unregistered veterinary assistants, and other members of the veterinary paraprofessional staff may also enroll. [FHGE: Non-GE; Transferable: CSU]
