William Beaumont Army Medical Center El Paso, TX David Haendle was a guest staying at the Fisher House in El Paso and helped describe the experience to manager Harry Hicks. He and his wife were pleased to discover the house was in such close proximity to the hospital, allowing the couple to walk back and forth while their daughter was being treated. Able to do laundry and cook, this helped the family maintain some normalcy during a medical crisis.

Darnall Army Medical Center Fort Hood, TX To help support the needs of their local Fisher House, the Navy Federal Credit Union’s Fort Hood branch made a donation to the Fort Hood Fisher House in celebration of their 10,000th member. Sgt. 1st Class Bienvenido Lopez-Torres was looking for a better rate for his car loan when he soon discovered a surprise waiting for him; the bank presented the donation to the Fisher House.
After a soldier at the BAMC Warrior Family Support Center taught Kaylee and Gracie Burgess how to make bracelets, Kaylee decided to ask her parents for supplies to make them for her birthday. Kaylee and Gracie came up with a plan to make the bracelets and sell them, donating their earned money to Fisher House.
Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center Houston, TX Recently Boy Scout Troop 40, spearheaded by Eagle Scout Nominee Jacob Jozwiak, took to making a difference to guests of the Houston Fisher House and for those looking for them. The resulting granite sign depicts Fisher House and is surrounded by roses. Jacob learned the skills of cutting metal and welding to personally create the frame as well as raised the money for this addition to their home. His efforts will be standing for years to come.

Although you may recognize the name Montel Williams, what you might not realize is he’s a fantastic cook. Every few months, Montel and his friend Chef Claire Winslow visit one of our Fisher Houses to prepare lunch for our service members and their families. This past February he visited the Fisher House at Brooke Army Medical Center to share some of his gratitude and recipes with our families.
