_xààxÜ yÜÉÅ exz|ÉÇtÄ W|ÜxvàÉÜ “Fashion has two purposes: comfort and love. Beauty comes when fashion succeeds.” – Coco Chanel I think that is the motto most Fashion Group Members live by. We love the clothes we wear, we love the style our accessories give us, but we LOVE comfort. Yes, most of us will torture ourselves for a killer pair of shoes, but will any of us suffer in a painful outfit? No way! Chanel was one of the people who paved the way for making our fabulous attire comfortable. This innovative, strong-willed woman created clothing that was not only lovable, but wearable. She wanted all women to look and FEEL beautiful! I’m sure I’m not alone here, but when I’m truly feeling great in what I’m wearing, that’s when I feel beautiful. Take for example, a bridesmaid in a wedding. How many of us have been told time and time again that we look “beautiful” in the hideous dresses we are forced to put on for our loved ones and the entire wedding experience, we don’t for a minute feel beautiful. Now, we may look pretty, but we don’t FEEL that successful beauty that Chanel talks about. So, in celebration of Coco Chanel during this “love month” let’s celebrate ourselves! Love the clothes you put on, wear items you are comfortable in (inside and out!) and feel beautiful! Wishing each of you a fabulous month of beautiful… And don’t forget to tune in to the BEAUTIFUL fashions coming up in NY Fashion Week! Feb 7-14, 2013. Love,

Established in 1930, The Fashion Group International was founded on the idea that it takes an exceptional woman to flourish and succeed in the challenging world of fashion. That year, seventeen women gathered by Edna Woolman Chase, editor-in-chief of VOGUE, met for lunch in New York City. They had three things in common: each held a job of consequence in fashion, each respected every member of the group and each held a common belief.

Cognizant of the ever-changing nature of the industry, and the increasingly turbulent nature of business, the Fashion Group International addresses issues relevant to the future of the industry. This month we asked our subscribers who their fashion icons/role models were. Here’s what everyone said...

Hands down, ELIE SAAB. I can spot an ELIE SAAB creation from a mile away because nothing compares. He knows a woman's body better than most woman do. The fit is always perfection and I can't think of anyone that can accentuate and highlight a woman's shape better. In addition to that, he loves architecture and came out with a stunning perfume his first go around. As an Architect, I appreciate this - and as a contemporary handbag designer, I aspire to follow in his path and launch my own perfume one day! ]ÉtÇÇx _täxÜáÉÇ Joanne is the wife of Dr. Steve Laverson, a San Diego Plastic Surgeon whose patients have always asked for skin care advice. After analyzing many popular brands and the marketing behind them, the doctor and his wife realized the illusion of skin care complexity created by advertising drives sales, but not results, or value for the consumer. They believe that contemporary, busy, sophisticated buyers desire and deserve simplicity and effectiveness in their daily routine, including skin care. The Doctor’s Wife differentiated ingredients that were important, authentic and natural. She distilled out extraneous plant allergens, removed unnecessary preservatives, eliminated irritating synthetics, and committed to developing pure formulations that would become classics. The result is a small ALL STAR line-up of superior products for all skin types that perform the basic necessities of skin care extremely well: CLEAN, EXFOLIATE, NOURISH, and PROTECT.

TÇÇâtÄ `xÅuxÜáË `xxà|Çz exvtÑ On January 8th, 2013, the most fashionable and fabulous FGI San Diego Members made their way to the ultra-chic coastal city of Encinitas for our Annual Members’ Meeting. The event was graciously hosted by FGI San Diego Member Joanne Laverson and her husband, Dr. Steve Laverson of Feel Beautiful Plastic Surgery. Within just a few minutes, everyone was in love with Joanne and her husband. Their enthusiasm for their work, Joanne with her skin care line “The Doctor’s Wife” and Steve with his beautification procedures, was just phenomenal! It is so rare to see people who are that passionate about their work! (I became a fan of Joanne’s Menthe Blanche Microfoliator! Want to see an unbelievable difference in your skin? Then you HAVE to try it!) They also offered FGI San Diego Members exclusive discounts on Botox. Who purchased that night? That’s something I’ll never tell! Members also enjoyed a glorious spread of appetizers while mingling with other FGI San Diego Members as well as meeting the 2013 Board of Directors. The evening ended with the most scrumptious French birthday cake for Joanne as we all helped celebrate her birthday! A fashionabulous event with fashionabulous people! 2013 is starting off as a stellar year for FGI San Diego and its members!
