> Ravissante jeune femme d’origine thaïlandaise, Pim habite en Corée, avec son mari. Le jour de son anniversaire, elle se fait dire la bonne aventure, et les nouvelles qu’elle reçoit paraissent très positives. Quelque chose qu’elle avait égaré, apparemment lui sera retourné, bientôt… Mais il existe certaines choses que l’on aimerait mieux ne jamais retrouver quand on les a perdues. Par exemple, un jumeau siamois décédé sur la table d’opération. C’est précisément la situation où se trouve Pim. Elle et sa sœur Ploy étaient liées depuis la naissance. C’est Pim qui insista pour que l’opération soit tentée. L’opération eut lieu. Ploy mourut. Pim survécut. Ensuite, rongée par une culpabilité dévorante, elle quitta son pays, et alla vivre en Corée comme pour fuir ce passé qui la hante toujours. Et puis, tout à coup, voici que le passé n’est plus seul à la hanter: le spectre de Ploy revient la

Insolites retrouvailles en perspective… Banjong Pisanthanakun et Parkpoom Wongpoom sont les réalisateurs de SHUTTER et parmi les meilleurs auteurs de films d’horreur asiatiques. Ce sont de grands maîtres du suspense, et ils manipulent si bien leur médium que, franchement, ils peuvent laisser savoir au spectateur ce qui s’en vient et le faire sursauter quand même le moment venu! Leur nouvel opus, ALONE , n’est pas moins bien ficelé. Un sujet formidable que ce duo de génie arrive à nous servir avec toute la virtuosité et la retenue qui firent leur célébrité; une conclusion impeccable et un tour de force technique impressionnant. You see, Pim moved to Korea partially to escape the guilt of being the surviving half of a pair of conjoined twins. Her sister Ploy died after separation, a separation that Pim insisted on, and the guilt of her sister’s resulting death has plagued her ever since. The sophomore effort from the directing duo behind SHUTTER , ALONE proves once again that Banjong Pisanthanakun and Parkpoom Wongpoom are among the very finest horror directors Asia has to offer. Masters at manipulating tension, the two are so good that they can playfully telegraph what’s coming in certain scenes and still make you jump when they deliver the goods. The premise is sterling, the directors smart enough to know when to play to expectations and when to twist and subvert them, and the technical end of the film so strong that it should come as no surprise that ALONE has been scooping up awards by the armful all around the world. —Todd Brown
