> Le film d’horreur américain le plus cinglé de l’année est signé Jim Isaac: oui, celui-là même qui a réalisé JASON X … et le seul homme assez déjanté pour expédier Jason dans l’espace. Ce film délirant, c’est PIG HUNT. Un monstrueux cochon assassin sur grand écran. Un film de motocyclette psychoporcine. Un film de sexe hippie. Le récit de citadins pris en souricière dans un enfer redneck… Jim Isaac, devenu indépendant, s’est considérablement éloigné d’Hollywood afin de créer cet hybride ingénu et acide et cocasse à souhait, avec un gros porc bestial, que tout le monde va adorer… sauf les décideurs des grands studios qui, eux, auraient saigné des prunelles à voir toute cette violence gratuite. Jack vit à San Francisco. Dernièrement, son vieil oncle est décédé, et lui a légué son ranch, situé par là, au milieu de nulle part. Jack décide donc de faire une grande virée à la campagne avec sa copine, et tous ses amis — pour une chasse au cochon sauvage, oui, vous avez bien lu! Ils ont entendu parler d’un dangereux sanglier d’environ trois mille livres, au pelage tout noir, et qu’on aurait baptisé l’Éventreur. Cette bête vivrait apparemment dans la
région! Avant même d’arriver au ranch, malheureusement, Jack et ses amis se mettent à dos une bande de voyous armés jusqu’aux dents. Ensuite, ils atteignent le ranch, certes, mais celui-ci a été vandalisé. Un message peint à l’aérosol, en rouge: « La Mort marche à quatre pattes ». Bah! Jack et les copains sont venus ici pour chasser le cochon sauvage, et ils vont chasser le cochon sauvage! Si on écrit un seul mot de plus, on vous gâcherait la suite… Sachez seulement que le film dégénère peu à peu, très subtilement, pour s’éloigner, mine de rien, du plausible, et entrer dans l’antre hystérique de la démence totale. Ça vous propulsera de votre siège. Un combo malaxé de DELIVERANCE et de GRIZZLY et de ROAD WARRIOR saupoudré de toutes les références cultes possibles et imaginables. Punkabilly cinématographique — c’est le terme employé par Isaac lui-même pour décrire son œuvre, et nous ne voulons qu’abonder en ce sens. Attendez de voir la performance inclassable de Les Claypool, du groupe Primus! Il était tellement pris par son rôle, qu’il s’est cassé un doigt, durant une scène, et il a continué quand même, comme si de rien n’était! —tr aduction: David Pellerin

This time, he’s gone indie and worked outside the Hollywood system to create an exploitation hybrid without limits that that’s funny, tense and surprising, with one seriously cool monster pig at its centre and enough unapologetic raunch and violence to make a studio executive’s eyes bleed. Deep country bliss turns into punishing green hell when Jack, his girlfriend and a group of buddies head out from San Francisco for a getaway weekend of pig-hunting (!) at the middle-of-nowhere ranch of his recently deceased uncle. 3,000-pound black boar! Before they even reach their destination, they rub a heavily armed local gang the wrong way. They arrive at the ranch and it’s been vandalized. A red spray-painted message warns that “death walks on all fours.” No matter, Jack and the gang are going pig-hunting! Another word would smash into spoiler territory, but you should know that the film evolves in radical, crazy ways and by the time the credits roll, you’ll have seen a violent mash-up that crosses paths with everything from DELIVERANCE , GRIZZLY and THE ROAD WARRIOR to your favourite stoner death-cult pics! Most astonishing of all is how it takes you there, gradually treading away from the characterdriven and plausible into something so outlandish and supercharged it will rocket you clean through the roof. Isaac calls it “cinematic punkabilly” and we can definitely vibe with that. Watch out for an off-the-hook performance by Primus’s Les Claypool, who got so into his role that he actually broke a finger during a take and kept right on going! — Mitch Davis
