ow, we may not have much greenery to lie in and branches to

hang off, but what we do have more of in the summer is free time. I love the sleepy days and laid back pace of life that

ensues in the GCC through the hot months, and though the temperature outside can get way too uncomfortable for

more than an hour of tanning (hats off to anyone who can do a whole day by

the pool in 50°C) we’re only steps away from a/c to help cool us down. But, perhaps, the thing I enjoy most about the UAE summer is the amount of things to do indoors – many places and activities that are left undiscovered

until the heat kicks in. Turn to p33 and get out those diaries because we’ve

got the ultimate Summer Survival guide for everyone who’s staying in the

Warehouse421 Departure by Xavier mascaró DISCOVER MORE OF ABU DHABI WITH FACT FINDS. EVERY MONTH WE’LL BRING YOU A NEW HOTSPOT, OUR FAVOURITE HAPPENING, EATERY, ACTIVITY OR INTERESTING FIND FROM AROUND THE CITY.

Famed Spanish sculptor Xavier Mascaró has made his UAE debut at Warehouse421 with the exhibition Departure that presents an installation of 27 iron and bronze boats. Hailed as one of the world’s leading Spanish contemporary sculptors, Mascaró is displaying boats made from rusted iron and oxidised bronze, with an 18-metre, life-size ship out at the front entrance and 26 boats in different sizes taking up the indoor gallery space. The works touch on ideals of Abu Dhabi’s traditional relationship as a historical port-city through the visual and textual components that refer to the sea, trade and histories - words which are significant and synonymous to the capital. In addition to the works on display, Warehouse421 aims to take visitors on a behind-the-scenes journey into Mascaró’s studio. The exhibition will include a selection of his drawings, models, and interviews that demonstrate the artist’s process of creation. As a tribute to the UAE’s ancestry of sailing, sea 8

trade and maritime antiquity, Departure will also present traditional Emirati poetry and imagery about the sea, where excerpts will provide insight into the sailors’ emotions of travelling, the longing, reuniting, and the mystery of the unknown out at sea, to his community back home. “The identifiable themes in the exhibition are of passage, mobility and the sea which are acutely relevant to the portcity of Abu Dhabi and Mina Zayed,” Mascaró says. “Over the years, the UAE has ensured and created a strong industry in trade, fishing and pearling that have supported the community for years. The boats, and this exhibition, is a true testament to the history of the sea and this city.”

GO: Departure will be on display at Warehouse421 until September 4. Visit www.warehouse421.ae for more information.

ArTS Corner Here are some awesome arts exhibitions to check out around the GCC when visiting our neighbours this summer‌

QATAR RED/RED MATHAF ARAB NUSEUM OF MODERN ART Turkish artist AslĹ Çavusoglu’s installation Red / Red is currently on display at the .BUIBG "SBC .VTFVN PG .PEFSO "SU Project Space. The installation comprises 17 pieces, including handmade notebooks of drawings and paintings made with red pigments from Armenia and Turkey. Red / Red (2015) explores the physicality of a colour to tell a story of coexistence and communality. Delicate drawings are made on worn papers and handmade notebooks in two red inks: Armenian red, extracted from the endangered Armenian cochineal insect, and Turkish red, now used in the national flag. As the patterns modernise from floral to geometric shapes, the resilience of each pigment as it transforms over time is also reflected. In the work, the Turkish red holds its colour while the Armenian fades, narrating the changing physical and allegorical links to national culture, identity, and memory. GO: Red / Red is on display until September 11. Visit www.mathaf.org.qa for more information.

BAHRAIN SPITFIRE AT THE MUSEUM BAHRAIN NATIONAL MUSEUM This exhibition celebrates the strong civil and military aviation heritage between Bahrain and the UK. The centrepiece of the exhibition is the iconic Supermarine Spitfire, probably the most famous fighter aircraft in history, which first flew 80 years ago. This is the aircraft that defended the skies during the Second World War, including the defence of Bahrain. This Spitfire is on loan to the Bahrain National Museum from the RAF Museum, in partnership with BAE Systems. A number of other aircraft are on display in the exhibition, including: The Anson, designed and built in the North West of England by Avro, was used to establish the Gulf Aviation Company in 1950 which today has become Gulf Air, the national airline of the Kingdom of Bahrain; 5IF 7JDLFST 7$ was used for commercial flights into Bahrain by the British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) from 1964 and by Gulf Air in the 1970s. More recently RAF VC-10s were based in Bahrain during the 1991 Gulf War; The Blackburn Buccaneer was based at RAF Muharraq. DUBAI MADE IN TASHKEEL 2016 TASHKEEL, NAD AL SHEBA Taking place just down the road in Dubai, is the annual Made in Tashkeel exhibition, which showcases the works of Tashkeel members, workshop participants and recent exhibiting artists. The display of work celebrates the ongoing practice of members that makes up the creative and communal atmosphere within the art organisation. GLOBETROTTER

Wake up overlooking the River Danube at Meliá Vienna hotel, where floor-to-ceiling windows in the rooms offer spectacular views of the city. Enjoy a delightfully European breakfast at Flow Bar & Restaurant before setting off to explore Vienna.

Hop on the U-bahn (metro) taking the U1 from Kaisermühlen to Karlsplatz and changing to the U4 for Schönbrunn. The massive baroque complex here is the UNESCO World Heritage Site Schönbrunn Palace. Wander its lavish gardens, the zoo, a carriage museum, and the magnificent Gloriette with the best, far-reaching views over Vienna.

Take the U4 to Kettenbrückengasse. Right outside the station is the bustling Naschmarkt, packed with hundreds of thrifty vintage stalls, a fresh fruit and veg market, and a food bazaar with everything from Italian to Middle Eastern and European fare. After bagging a bargain, find Neni’s and take a seat for some lunch – their hummous is especially delicious!

From Kettenbrückengasse take the U4 and change at Karlsplatz to the U2 for Volkstheater, to explore the famous MuseumQuartier. Visit the Museum of Natural History (Naturhistorisches), the highly rated Art History Museum (Kunsthistorisches) which holds Vienna’s greatest collection of paintings covering a 200-year span, and for a more hipper experience, the Leopold Modern Art Museum and Mumok Museum, both holding exhibits on pop and modern art.

From Volkstheater you can walk up to the Hofburg, a sprawling, multiwing palace, surrounded by gardens, as well as the Rathaus (Town Hall). 52

GLOBETROTTER

Both are stunning buildings, seeped in Gothic past. They make for a great photo opp! In the summer months, a full-sized movie screen takes up the entire side of the Rathaus as it plays free outdoor movies over the park and Beer Garden. Perfect for afternoon breaks!

From Rathaus take the U2 and change at Volkstheater to the U1 for Stephansplatz, the city centre. Discover the many souvenir shops, high street stores, and local boutiques around Stephensplatz. Stop off for a snack at one of the many quaint cafes serving traditional Viennese Apfelstrudel (apple strudel) served with warm vanilla sauce.

Burn off the fuel with a visit to St. Stephen’s Cathedral and climb the 466-foot tall South Tower, called Old Steve, for breathtaking views of Old Town. For more about the mighty cathedral’s history, visit the underground Virgil Chapel accessed through the subway station in Saint Stephen’s Square, for an exhibition on Vienna in the Middle Ages.

Getting Around On Foot All you need is a city map with some basic German phrases, and a sense of adventure, to get exploring on foot.

Metro Catch a performance at The State Opera House, a monument to music that has famous operas, ballets and Viennese balls taking place. It was in Vienna where the Waltz was born and where Mozart wrote his famous opera The Marriage of Figaro so you know they’ll put on a good show.

Head back to Meliå Vienna and grab dinner at 57 Restaurant, where a great choice of delectable international dishes with a Mediterranean touch make up the menu. Seasonal dishes are the best, and we recommend the Wild Garlic Risotto with your choice of beverage – mouthwatering! The restaurant is open until midnight and boasts the most amazing views of Vienna.

There’s a station located in all major inner and outer parts of the city, and as long as you can navigate the map, this is a fast and cheap way of getting around.

Big Screen The Legend of Tarzan

What’s it about: The classic Disney film has been given a huge overhaul, seeing Tarzan return to the jungle in which he was born, at the hand of Parliament, to coerce those who live there into a peaceful union.

DIRECTOR: David Yates CAST: Margot Robbie, Alexander Skarsgård, Samuel L. Jackson, Christopher Waltz WHY IT’S WORTH WATCHING? Everyone’s seen the 1999 Disney great, Tarzan, but it’s safe to say that although this film shares the same moniker, it’s a world of difference from the original. An action-packed storyline and a five-star cast bring this live action story to the forefront of 2016 reboots, ensuring that Disney’s oldtime classics are just as relevant and appealing to modern day cinema-goers. As well as the meaty storyline, there’s a ton of fantastic characters to sink your teeth into. Alexander with his tall, masculine form along with a brooding yet kind face makes him a perfect fit for our vine-hopping hero, whilst the beautiful Margot Robbie and her performance as the strong-willed, intelligent Jane will make you feel all the whirlwind emotions throughout. The standout performance, however, comes from Christoph Waltz in his role as Captain Rom. He’s the definition of bad guy and plays it so perfectly that you’ll have sparks of hate flying for him right from the start. Whether you’re here for the cast, the nostalgia or the beautiful cinematography, you’re sure to be blown away!

Highlights “As well as the meaty storyline, there’s a ton of fantastic characters to sink your teeth into. Alexander with his tall, masculine form along with a brooding yet kind face makes him a perfect fit for our vine-hopping hero...”

Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates What’s it about: In a film true to our everyday reality, two brothers post an ad for wedding dates online which goes viral, but their dates aren’t exactly what they seem, seeing what was supposed to be a drama-free wedding take a turn for the worse.

– The Legend of Tarzan

“...this film will still have you wide-eyed with excitement at what The Four Horsemen may pull off next” – Now You See Me 2

DIRECTOR: Jake Szymanski CAST: Zac Efron, Adam DeVine, Anna Kendrick, Aubrey Plaza WHY IT’S WORTH WATCHING? Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates is one of those films that you watch and know for sure that you’ll feel good by the end of it. It’s silly and hilarious, which is what makes it so addictive. The fact that Zac Efron doesn’t take himself too seriously to pull off this roll makes him a pleasure to watch and if you were a fan of Pitch Perfect, then the inclusion of both Adam DeVine and Anna Kendrick will put a smile on your face. This film might not win any awards, but it’s sure to make its way back on your screens time and time again, with plenty of memorable dialogue and new convo one-liners!

FANTASY

The Star-Touched Queen By Roshani Chokski

RAP/HIP-HOP "-5 30$,

Digital Distortion

By Biffy Clyro

By Iggy Azalea

Ellipsis

Their last album, Opposites, was a huge hit that catapulted Biffy Clyro onto a bigger music stage than ever before, and so, the band decided to take a break (naturally – it’s what we would do after all that fame and recognition), only to show up in 2016 to make a comeback with something completely different from their previous record something they insist sounds more like their earlier albums; raw and true. The first single from Ellipsis, Wolves of Winter was a sweet taste of what was to be expected. It, of course, has the raging guitar solos, but it’s also paired with beautiful vocals - something that is a common theme throughout the 14-track CD. It’s obvious that the influences have changed slightly on this album, with Hip Hop being one of the more present inspirations, almost giving this album a gritty sound. Biffy Clyro needed to do this, for both old fans and new; Ellipsis is constantly on the edge, ready to fall into the oblivion, yet teetering, remaining in that perfect limbo of chaotic calm.

After the success of her debut studio album, The New Classic, we’ve all been waiting patiently for a follow-up that would have us just as hyped about Iggy’s lyrical skills and beats. After plenty of struggles, Digital Distortion is finally here and, let’s just put it out there, Miss Azalea brought her A-game. With Team being the album’s lead single, she managed to send a powerful message, that she was back, and she didn’t need anyone’s help to smash it. This album is a lot less collab driven, something that made for a more passionate and stronger record; it still has the iconic Iggy sound, but it’s brought a lot more punch to the party, with the rap princess giving fans an insight into her much documented private life. On the other hand, it’ll also make you feel like a complete and utter bad ass whilst you’re pumping it in the car - now, that’s our kind of record!

Maya’s world is plunged into darkness when her father arranges for her to marry a King out of political convenience, something totally against her scholarly nature. However, this u-turn sees Maya going from an introverted girl, to a powerful Queen, finding her voice and pursuing her wants and desires. In an unexpected twist, we see the protagonist span reincarnated lives in order to solve an ancient mystery and take herself and loved ones away from the danger that she believes her husband’s secrets bring. With so many intricate details and discoveries at every turn, this book will take the rug right out from under you, just when you least expect it.

Ego is the Enemy By Ryan Holiday

In a world where social media can be the rise and fall of success, Holiday is challenging the notion of self-promotion through egotistical tactics and showing us that some of the greatest visionaries in the world beat their ego to become the pinnacle of success. Many celebrities and business gurus will tell you that social media is your best friend when trying to boost your success, but this book urges you to think more about the work you do rather than your own ‘specialness’ from doing it. A

FACT VISITED YAS MARINA CIRCUIT TO TEST THE LATEST VERSION OF THE PORSCHE 911 991 SERIES, AND THERE HAVE BEEN SOME MAJOR CHANGES…

64

fact magazine

t first glance, there is very little difference to the new 911. There have been slight tweaks to the front air scoops, and new automatic cooling flaps, but that’s about it. However, despite the lack of visual updates, don’t for a second think that it’s the same as the previous model. There have been three major changes to the 911 Carreras that have made a real difference in terms of performance. On the previous range, all models except for the 911 Turbos were powered by naturally-aspirated 3.4 and 3.8 litre flatsix boxer engines. Now, the entire range is turbo-charged, with the Carrera and Carrera S models boasting a smaller twinturbo 3.0 litre engine that nevertheless puts out about 20hp more in both engines that their predecessors, with 365bhp on the Carrera, and 414bhp on the Carrera S. The BIG boost, however, comes in the torque, with the new models boasting an additional 60Nm each, with 450Nm on the Carrera, and 500Nm on the Carrera S. With the Sports Chrono package, this equates to a 0-100km/h time of 4.2 seconds for the Carrera, and 3.9 for the Carrera S, which makes it the first Carrera model to break the sub-four second barrier. The next major revolution on the new 911 is the introduction of rear-axle steering as an option. This technology was previously only seen on the 911 GT3 and Turbo, and the mighty 918. The rear-axle steering works by actually turning the wheels a couple of degrees. At low speeds, it turns in the opposite direction of the front wheels to improve the turning circle by effectively shortening the wheelbase. At high speeds, it turns in the same direction as the front wheels to effectively lengthen the wheelbase and improve traction and stability in the corners. The effect is incredible. In an exercise where we drove 911s with and without the system at track speeds, the rear-axle steering makes a massive difference. You have to drive each car differently, as the system allows you to turn into a corner so much more aggressively, and lay down the

CITY RIDES

power a lot more on the exit, making for massively quicker cornering. It’s hugely impressive. The last major change over the previous models is the introduction of the rotary ring drive mode selector with the Sports Chrono Package. From this you can select the ‘Normal’, ‘Sport’ and ‘Sport Plus’ settings we know from previous models. However, what it also features is the ‘Sport Response Button’. Once pushed, this button instantly adjusts the drive train for maximum acceleration for 20 seconds, for overtaking and so on. When you push it, the car instantly shifts down and throttle response is maximised, turning it into a lairy beast for a few seconds. You can either wait 20 seconds for it to time out, or press the button again to switch it off. So there you have it – despite minimal visual updates, the new 911 is a whole new machine, and takes the iconic Porsche into new realms of technological wizardry and general driving enjoyment. You’d expect nothing less from Porsche really! fact magazine

As Amazon’s list of online services expands far beyond it’s original online shopping o r i g i n s, s o t o o m u s t d e v i c e s respond to work with them.

THe amazon eCHO

A

mazon has responded to its new product and service growth with devices of its own, one of those being this, the Amazon Echo. It is a portable smart speaker which works with Amazon’s Alexis, similar to Apple’s Siri, a voice activated software that can respond a wide range of commands, and learns to recognise your voice with more efficiency the more you use it. The speaker acts as its own Wifi network, with which all of your devices can link through the device’s software. This includes phones, tablets, laptops, and your house. Yes, your house. The Echo can link up with smart houses to give you voice control over things like lighting, curtains, alarms and so on, provided you have the right systems in place. You wake it up by saying “Alexa”, and then give your voice command. You can set timers, play a range of online audio streaming services like Spotify, Pandore or TuneIn radio, listen to the news headlines, order a cab from Uber and much, much more, and the list of services grows constantly. VerdiCt After using it for a while, we just grew increasingly impressed with every new thing we learned it could do. It recognises voice commands incredibly well, even from across a large room with a TV on in the background, and once you get used to using it, it seamlessly becomes part of your life without you even thinking about it. Truly awesome stuff. However, the one solitary down side we discovered was high-volume bass, which really lacks punch. It’s an area that is so easy to improve, and it is something that shouldn’t have let the speaker down. Expect premium audio-branded versions of the same technology soon.

Released in tandem with the much-anticipated sequel to Independence Day, this enjoyable space-based RPG is a straightforward and easy-to-play app that will annihilate large chunks of your free time. In the game, you join the combat ranks of the Earth Space Defense and protect the world from the alien invasion. Create the ultimate military fleet, and use the latest hybrid alien technology to win battles across the Solar System. The game is visually superb, with a nice design and good graphics. The RPG and strategy elements are well-balanced and fun to play with. Even when you run out of energy, there are still missions you can play, so you can enjoy this game for hours on end without pumping money into it. There are in-app purchases, but the game is free to download, so give it a go!

A new mobile application for car enthusiasts was launched last month, in what is the region’s first social sharing market place combination for car lovers, bridging the gap between social media and e-commerce. Aptly named Dazzled Cars, the app brings together individual car devotees and automotive businesses in one super interactive community. Car lovers can share images and videos of their favourite cars around town and rank the best images shared in their country. Users will enjoy a broader range of services including automotive oriented events, meet ups, and be able to follow the latest car news and reviews. The app also features the option to buy and sell cars completely free of cost, with a built in messenger allowing sellers and dealers to interact. The interface is smooth and easy to use, and it’s already enjoying a decent following, so get involved.

arance Doré, muse of numerous publishing houses and premium campaigns, has now left her personal mark on the Massimo Dutti Spring/Summer 16 Collection in a fashion story in which the backdrop is New York, the city where she currently lives. This avant-garde and visionary artist, whose aesthetic inspirations are Katherine Hepburn, Françoise Sagan and Romy Schneider, is a fashionable lady of class. Her expertise and style choices have resulted with a foray into a normal day in the life of such a multifaceted woman, taking off with a mise-en-scène at her work space - in which she has been portrayed as the independent, hardworking and very chic woman that she is. A series of very comfortable, elegant, quality and modern garments were chosen for the photo session, including some that even nodded to the garçon style, which is so characteristic of Garance Doré. The result: perfect combinations for any time of the day. Ranging from mannish looks with a masculine shirt as the focal point; total white looks, so sought after this spring or the eternal Little Black Dress. All of these combined to perfection with a selection of the must haves from the new collection of accessories, in camel and black coloured leather, ideal to complete either an office look or a more relaxed party look. NATURALIZER SS16 COLLECTION

F

or the Spring/Summer 2016 season Naturalizer has once again elevated style and comfort by seeking inspiration from the modern woman. This collection incorporates contemporary trends, fine detailing and above all, comfort. The Naturalizer woman is tired of compromising style for comfort and this is where Naturalizer shines. The designs are based on the principles of quality and innovation through technologies to create feminine styles that cater to a modern woman. Naturalizer designed a line focused on two major stories for this season, covering everything from modern classics to everyday styles: Ethno Mix – This trend features an overall multicultural spirit. Casual styles elevated through the use of modern materials such as decorative weaves and elastic leathers. With this trend Naturalizer seeks to combine sport and culture, creating fun, playful designs to express colour, and unique floral prints. The mule and ballerina are updated with ghillie lacing and distinctive detailing. Colors that you will see in this trend are flame red and maize yellow, as well as tonal combinations; turquoise, cobalt and green or red, coral and magenta. Modern Prep – Naturalizer continues to evolve the modern look, approaching this trend with clean styling with a fun pop. Modern Prep takes on styles from 60’s and 70’s flare, but redefines them with contemporary shapes such as; oxfords, sling back sandals and sneakers. Menswear styling is still very prevalent this season with modern shapes to match the “boy meets girl” look. There is a clear emphasis on embracing the softer side with a quiet yet happy palette of bold mid tones with warm neutrals such as taupe, nude, ivory, white light blues and coral pink. CHEF’S TABLE

A RATHER UNIQUE CHEF’S TABLE THIS MONTH, AS WE TALK TO ARMED FORCES OFFICERS CLUB EXECUTIVE CHEF KARSTEN GOTTSCHALK, WHOSE TABLE DURING THE HOLY MONTH SEATS UP TO

THIRTY THOUSAND PEOPLE !

SINCE 2004, the Armed Forces Officers Club and Hotel has provided the Iftar meal to the many thousands of daily visitors to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque during the Holy Month of Ramadan. In the beginning, around four thousand meals a day were provided to worshippers. Today, this colossal undertaking sees the Officers Club and the Grand Mosque give away up to thirty thousand Iftar trays per day to worshippers who have come to the capital’s main religious site to break their fast and pray. In addition to this, the Officers Club also provides up to six thousand meals to workers cities in Abu Dhabi, providing nourishment for workers who have often come in from a full day’s work outside whilst fasting. Chef Karsten tells us: “The team that works on it we bring in from all our operations. We have the Officers Club, where we have approximately 200 chefs, but we also have outside operations which are closed during the day during the month of Ramadan, so those workers come here and help us out with the Ramadan operations.” The entire team of the Armed Forces Officers Club comprises a staff of around 350 chefs, 160 stewards, 450 service staff, as well as the teams from purchasing, stores, accounts, quality management, maintenance and transport. They all work together to ensure the preparation and delivery of many hundreds of tonnes of food is conducted smoothly and successfully, with a consistent quality throughout the course of the Holy Month. “Preparing the packages for each day takes a full 24 hours, from cutting the vegetables and marinating the meat to 88

cooking the rice and so on,” Chef Karsten explains. “It is then all processed and packed. At the mosque, each person is given a tray, and on that tray will be the hot food parcel with biryani, chicken or lamb, as well as salad, an apple, laban drink, water, dates and juice.” Each meal is portioned into takeaway dishes, which are then packed on shelves in mobile temperature-controlled cabinets to ensure food safety standards are maintained. The wheeled cabinets are then loaded on to a fleet of generator-powered trucks for transportation to the site. “Every cabinet is signed off and sealed once it’s filled, and one goes to tent one, one goes to tent two, and everything is monitored, including temperature at time

CHEF’S TABLE

of sealing and temperature at time of opening, so we know how every trolley moves. There is a team dedicated just to this,” Chef Karsten says. It might seem like a gargantuan task, but the organisation has 12 years of experience under its belt, and Chef Karsten himself has been overseeing

the show for the past few years. Also crucial to the operation, however, is Chef George Gebrayel. As Executive Chef of the kitchen of the main clubhouse of the Armed Forces Officer’s Club where the entire process is carried out, he is directly responsible for the food preparation process. In addition to the Grand Mosque Iftar, the club still maintains its own operations, which include a 600 room hotel, three main restaurants, several cafes and lounges, and expansive leisure and sports facilities, including football pitches, tennis courts, squash courts, a 50m Olympic-sized indoor swimming pool, a children’s village with games, a bowling alley, shooting range, ladies’ and mixed gyms, sports halls, paintball centre and track and field area. VENUE REVIEW

Our first course began well with the Seared ‘Hokkaido’ Scallops, with North Sea shrimps and braised leeks in a crustacean foamed sauce. The scallops are superb, and complemented perfectly by the delicious and delicately flavoured sauce. The Salade au Chèvre Chaud, a warm goats’ cheese salad comes with a delicious topping of toasted goats cheese on a slice of baguette, and a light and tasty salad with a nice subtle Balsamic Vinaigrette that complements the flavour of the goats’ cheese, the sweetness of the pear and earthiness of the beetroot.

For the main event, the Daurade en Croûte de Sel is a salt-encrusted and baked sea breem which the waiter prepares for you at the table, cracking open the salt case and plating. Cooked perfectly, the fish melts in your mouth, flavoured exquisitely by the lemon butter sauce. It comes with a side portion of fragrant wild rice delicately flavoured with cardamom. This was followed by the Herb Crusted Rack of Lamb, with Gratin Dauphinois, Lamb Jus and Stuffed Baby Vegetables. The lamb is cooked to tender pink perfection, with herb flavours that were different; though better, than any we’d had before. The lamb jus is rich and delicious, and the gratin is creamy and decadent, with nice strong flavours of cheese. An experience like this had to end with the desserts, and so we ordered the Crêpe Suzette, and the Fondant au Chocolate.

The crepes are prepared at the table in an entertaining show complete with the flambé of the liqueur, and the final product is soaked in the tantalisingly tangy and citrusy sauce. The chocolate fondant is excellent too, but on this dish the show is completely stolen by the rhubarb ice cream. This particular flavour of ice cream is SO good that you can’t help but ask why you’ve never seen it before, because it’s now your favourite! The experience at Brasserie Angelique defines fine dining, with a perfect setting and impeccable service magnified by a spectacular menu. The individual flavours of the premium ingredients on each plate are tangible, and yet work with the others perfectly to create dishes that will truly stand out in your memory and have you yearning to come back!

GO: Visit Brasserie Angelique at Jumeirah at Etihad Towers. Call (0)2 811 5666 for reservations and more information.
