This page: The Columbus Museum of Art displays an ancient mosaic from Israel (far left) in “Marvelous Menagerie” through Jan. 13; showcases works by Columbus folk artist Elijah Pierce—including “Archie Griffin” (left)— beginning Sept. 13; and marks the city’s bicentennial with “Songs for the New Millennium, 1812-2012: Works by Aminah Robinson Celebrating 200Columbus,” featuring eight new works (including the one below) by the Columbus artist, beginning Aug. 24 and running through the spring.

One of the most anticipated exhibitions of the season is “Annie Leibovitz” at the Wexner Center for the Arts on the campus of The Ohio State University. The acclaimed contemporary arts center is devoting all of its gallery space to this presentation featuring more than 200 images from the famed photographer’s portfolio. The bulk of the exhibit, which runs Sept. 22-Dec. 30, consists of works from Leibovitz’s “Master Set,” an authoritative edition of 156 images personally selected by the artist. The Wexner Center is the first venue to display the set in its entirety, from a regal Queen Elizabeth to the iconic Blues Brothers.

World affairs take center stage when the Wex hosts “Shimon Attie: Metro.PAL.IS.” Jan. 26-April 7. The installation features eight 65-inch monitors arranged in a circle. Characters on each screen read from the Israeli and Palestinian declarations of independence, revealing a surprising overlap between the two texts. Art from the ancient world is on display at the Columbus Museum of Art through Jan. 13 in “Marvelous Menagerie: An Ancient Roman Mosaic from Lod, Israel.” The venue is one of only four museums to display this large, detailed mosaic floor (unearthed in 1996 from a Roman villa) before it’s returned to Israel to become the focus of an archaeological center.
