Maui, Hawaii News barely gets bigger than recent developments at this tropical, palm-dotted seaside retreat on Maui’s northwestern coast. In June, the former Residences at Kapalua Bay emerged from a $15 million renovation to debut as the Montage Kapalua Bay. A sister of the beloved Montage resorts in Laguna Beach and Beverly Hills, California, and Deer Valley, Utah, this latest outpost now hosts a signature restaurant, Cane & Canoe, that blends Asian and modern Hawaiian flavors and is helmed by Culinary Institute of America-trained Chef Riko Bartolome. A sprawling, 30,000-square-foot spa features soothing rituals that incorporate traditional updated is the resort’s waterfront recreational activities, including watersports, beach amenities, and cabanas, as well as the addition of Paintbox and M-Teens, which Montage fans will recognize as the brand’s stand-out children’s program, and adolescent activities (think stand-up paddleboard lessons and mid-day snorkeling excursions). Those celebrating a special occasion will want to visit the new Cliff House, a wood-and-stone structure built into a coastal bluff, with incredible Pacific sunset views, easy access to snorkeling, and gourmet, customized menus.
