THE EVOC STORY For many years we have travelled the world looking for perfect trails and powder lines. We discovered amazing places and found some incredible runs. Finding suitable gear, however, was never easy – the market just didn´t offer the packs and bags we had in mind. So we started designing and manufacturing gear to meet our needs: high-quality, sophisticated products with sensible features. The idea to establish EVOC was born when more and more other people started asking for our gear. Since then, the standards for all our products have remained unchanged: highest possible quality, ingenious details and smart functions. We keep it simple, functional and reliable. But we also offer something that goes deeper – a passion for what we do. As a result, EVOC products are much more than merely pieces of equipment.

The launch of our PROTECTOR BACKPACK models (FR) with TÜV/GS-certified integrated back protectors (EVOC LITESHIELD BACK PROTECTOR) means that we are able to offer a range of backpacks made to help protect your spine from injury during a fall. With TÜV/GS certiÞed LITESHIELD BACK PROTECTOR TECHNOLOGY you get a quality made backpack that is also a full-ßedged safety device to help you avoid injuries when you crash. Our FR backpack concept stands out for its ßexible adaption to the shape of any back and its reduced weight – a FR backpack plus protector weighs no more than a regular backpack. In case of damage the LITESHIELD BACK PROTECTOR is exchangeable. EVOC LITESHIELD BACK PROTECTORS are also not susceptible to extreme temperatures. CE - Norm EN 1621-2 To prove compliance with these standards, a tapered, 5 kg test weight drops onto the protector from 1 metre height. To meet the requirements, the generated impact force of the steel body of 150 â&#x20AC;&#x201C; 180 kN must be slowed down to an average residual force of a maximum of 18 kN. Reaching a residual force of only 9.75 kN, the EVOC LITESHIELD BACK PROTECTOR offers damping capabilities which are almost twice as effective as the standards require.

The typical shock absorption curve is relatively pointed for most protectors so the impact energy hits the body in a very direct manner. The EVOC LITESHIELD BACK PROTECTOR, however, offers a segmented layer construction to guarantee perfect damping. The absorption curve is very Ă&#x; at. MY PACKLIST: What you pack along into the back country depends on your objectives, and your environment. I plan on getting into trouble out there, so I bring the essentials to help me out of whatever I’ve gotten myself into. 01 Climbing skins – They are old as dirt and have been cut down the middle to stretch out for the fat skis. They are sewn together with fishing line to hold them in place on the ski, and the narrow tip clip has been replaced with custom fit coat hangers. | 02 EVOC PATROL TEAM // 40l + 5l | 03 SWANY gloves – Throw them on when hiking to keep my thicker gloves dry for skiing. | 04 MALOJA puffy vest – Packs small but will keep you warm when hanging out eating lunch, or drinking beers on the tailgate. | 05 Radio – Invaluable! Atlin B.C.: Heli Boarding in Canada’s Coast Mountains

“If ya got twennythousand bucks, ya can fucking slam that fucking door!” Jean-Marc is in an absolute rage while we stand around sheepishly. Jean-Marc is our helicopter pilot. Short and stocky, and wearing an oil-stained, red polyester aviator jacket with a “Klondike Heliskiing” logo, he’s staring us down through his tinted pilot goggles. He has just informed us in deep Canadian slang that the helicopter’s door is to be opened and closed slowly and carefully because it’s worth as much as you would pay for a small car. We glance at each other in embarrassment as we stand here in the morning sun in front of the hangar, laden with ultra-professional snowboard gear and dressed in brand new, highly functional, 3-layer outdoor clothing. It’s obvious: This is our Þrst kick in the teeth – and we have not even taken off. And yet we came here because we’re ready to fulÞl our ultimate dream. Ready to face the biggest challenge in every snowboarder’s life. Ready to ride the huge mountains and steep slopes. Ready for the great wilderness and rough outdoors, and of course, ready for a helicopter ßight. This is why we made the long trip to Atlin, British Columbia, Canada; certainly not to come across as complete helicopter greenhorns even before taking off on the Þrst ßight. When Jean-Marc’s tirade is over, and after receiving another indepth introduction, we are Þnally ready to go. The steady whirring of the rotor blades ramps up to a loud rattling noise, and then the helicopter gently takes off despite the noisy roar. Seconds later the handful of timber houses in Atlin dwindles to a toy hamlet far beneath us, and then a sweeping about-turn reveals Lake Atlin’s vast ice surface to us. Like an evenly marbled plain it extends all the way to the snow-covered mountain peaks on the horizon – and yes, this is where we are heading! After a short ßight over a series of stunningly beautiful mountain tops, ridges and slopes covered in deep snow, a little white summit gradually appears beneath us, which means it’s time to get ready. Now hurry, open the hatch and leave the cramped cabin quickly, one by one. Once outside, we are blasted with an incredible inferno of noise, wind and swirled-up snow causing everyone to scurry for a safe spot to duck away. Thumbs up, we’ve all disembarked from the helicopter! Now Þrmly hold on to the snowboards while the monster takes off with a loud roar, veers left and then dives down vertically into the valley, nose Þrst. No sooner has the helicopter gone than it becomes deadly silent, without so much as a breeze.

Our landing spot in front of us widens into a steep mountain ridge covered with a thick layer of powdery snow, and then opens up to become a large basin adjoined by another steep slope before stretching all the way down to the valley. There is so much space that everyone can easily ride his own line. Cautious at Þrst, we soon regain our powder-riding skills and conÞdence, picking up speeds that cause huge clouds of powder snow to Þll the air. Cutbacks, drops, small couloirs and long wide turns – the terrain has something to offer for everyone. When we arrive at the bottom where the helicopter is waiting, the huge smiles on our faces speak for themselves: This run alone has made all our expenses and efforts worthwhile! And this is only the beginning. We get used to the luxury of having a helicopter at hand at an alarming rate, and after a few runs, climbing into the helicopter almost feels as natural as getting onto a chairlift. The following days are packed with myriads of unbelievably thrilling runs as we come to explore the entire ßight area. Jean-Marc has not landed on many of the mountain summits before, and more often than not the answer to our question as to the name of a particular run is “Whatever you want to call it!” After a few days of riding, the guides have enough conÞdence in us to allow each of us to be dropped off on our “own” mountain. And so there you are, all alone on some snowcovered peak in the Canadian outback, with shaky knees, cautiously peeking over the edge down into a steep drop, wondering whether this is really the line you chose. Somehow it did not look nearly as steep as this from below... On our last night, we enjoy a Canadian barbecue at the campÞre in the forest, eating elk meat and drinking canned beer. Soon enough, the burning wood is crackling in the Canadian wilderness while we discuss and relive the best runs of the past days. What a trip, what incredible mountains and extraordinary runs! While the cold slowly creeps up our backs and into our bones, our faces glow ever more in the Þrelight, not only because the alcohol is starting to take effect but mostly due to the enthusiasm and thrill about what we experienced in Atlin, one of the last outposts for the ultimate snowboard adventure.

CAMERA BACKPACKS A sports photographer’s dream is to capture the perfect moment of action in a perfect setting. Whatever the sport, when passion and dedication meet perfection, time seems to stand still. Action sports photography has always been an integral part of EVOC’s history. Since our Þrst photo shoots years ago we have maintained close contact with numerous sports photographers. After many hours spent discussing their needs for a perfect camera bag carrying sensitive equipment to remote locations, it became evident to us that we needed to start our own photo equipment line. And here is the result: EVOC PHOTO.

RICHARD WALCH | PHOTOGRAPHER Richard Walch is one of the first widely published German snowboard photographers and is famous for his picture aesthetics. Today he still works in the snow but is also a sought after photographer for sailing. “I like to shoot strong elements - like snow and water. I’m specialized in sailing photography in summer and ski/ snowboard photography in winter. Very often the most difficult part of a shooting is to even reach the location. That’s why I need a backpack for my equipment.

It needs

to have a perfect fit so I can snowboard with it and a high degree of protection for my camera - even if I crash. An ultra fast access is mandatory for me so I can grab my gear even in the middle of the slope. The challenge is to never stand still - you need to develop your photography just like the sport evolution never stops. Nature becomes most interesting if the conditions get rough. To be able to still get the shot – that’s what I like.”

MATERIALS The materials used to manufacture our products are exclusively selected or even developed by us: We concentrate on polyamide (“Nylon”) for all our bags and backpacks, because it is the lightest, most durable and abrasion-resistant type of material available. We adapt the thread gauge and the coating of every fabric according to each product’s speciÞc requirements. We use PU-coatings to gain maximum waterprooÞng – also a very wear-resistant and robust material that is not susceptible to temperature changes.

NYLON 210/D RIPSTOP, PU COATED The demands for the perfect outer material of a backpack can be summed up in four characteristics: durable, abrasion resistant, water repellent and very light. This is exactly what our Nylon 210/D Ripstop offers. A double PU-coating of the lightweight nylon base provides moisture protection and wear resistance. A micro texture of Þlaments segments the basic fabric into tiny squares to prevent rips – hence the name Ripstop.

NYLON 420/D, PU COATED This Nylon has slightly thicker threads which make it the perfect outer material for all backpacks and bags that require a higher degree of abrasion resistance and durability without a lot of extra weight. The ideal material for our photo bags.

NYLON 210T TAFETTA PU 1500MG WR For our waterproof backpack raincovers and safe pouches we employ this high end polyamide with PU coating.

BALLISTIC NYLON 1680/D, PU COATED Our most durable Nylon for the most exposed areas which are most subjected to stress. Its increased thread gauge (1680 Denier) makes it an extremely abrasion and tear resistant material that improves durability in highly stressed areas (e.g. corners and edges) drastically.

CORDURA® 1000/D, PU COATED Cordura® is a special, highly durable fabric made of polyamide (Nylon) the individual threads of which are Þrst cut and then spun and woven again. This process creates an especially tear and abrasion resistant material which is ideal for the highly stressed areas of our products, such as the bottom portions of bags and backpacks. The PU coating makes the surface moisture and dirt resistant.

P 600/D, PU COATED A very durable fabric for high-abrasion areas, it is also tear-resistant and lightweight while absorbing almost no moisture. Combining these characteristics, it’s the perfect material for high-stress pockets or backpack base constructions.

AIR MESH Air Mesh is equipped with Þne pores for excellent air circulation and does not absorb moisture. This makes it it perfectly suited as a ventilating cover fabric for the back parts of our protector backpacks.

3D AIR MESH This three dimensionally structured fabric with variable thread sizes (P75D*30D) offers the optimal properties in ventilation and cushioning for the covers of paddings and shoulder straps.

NEOPRENE Well known from watersports, neoprene also has ideal properties for high-end backpacks. Very strong and at the same time ßexible over a wide temperature range, it works outstandingly for our hip belts. The material additionally offers great temperature regulation and shock absorbing qualities.

ATILON PE-FOAM A highly-developed foam which offers excellent support and damping properties despite its reduced weight. Atilon is our Þrst choice in all product areas where protection and comfort play an important role.

NON STICK VELCRO This Velcro only adheres to its counterpart, which prevents it from sticking to other fabrics on contact. This reduces the damage to fabric through torn out Þbres.

EVOC TARPAULIN – P1000D, DOUBLE-SIDED TPU COATED Tarpaulin, a strong, ßexible and waterproof material is normally made of polyester coated with PVC, however, EVOC uses a woven polyamide fabric coated with EPO® on both sides which results in an advanced material with environmental properties: free of PVC, extremely durable, very light, waterproof and insensitive to temperature changes.

MATERIALS

JERSEY LYCRA with ACQUA ZERO FINISH by SITIP SITIP, who are famous for their high-end jersey materials for cycling, provide the upper material for our top protector vest. Aside from its outstanding humidity management (ACQUA ZERO) and its exceptional breathability, this material is equipped with a Nano coating: the lotus effect prevents dirt particles from adhering to the surface of the material.

AIRBREATH MESH Our approved upper material for EVOC PROTECTION WEAR is a functional material that is commonly used for bicycle jerseys: it is light, ßexible, breathable and dries quickly – this makes it the Þrst choice to provide a high degree of comfort.

HONEYCOMB MESH This fabric in honeycomb design combines ßexibility with exceptional breathability. This makes it the ideal material for areas that are subject to the most intensive movement, such as the side areas and underneath the arms, where there is a lot of heat and moisture to be dissipated.

YKK ZIPPERS We employ YKK-zippers in our products to provide the highest level of quality. YKK products conform to the Öko Tex Standard 100 for product class 1. The functional advantages of YKK zippers besides the easy slider movements are their outstanding slider lock strength (= perpendicular force to the slider body) and the overall strength of the slider tab pull off (90 degree force on pull tab).

YKK BUCKLES For the highest level of quality assurance YKK buckles are the perfect match. YKK products conform to the Öko Tex Standard 100 for product class 1. The “Vertical Engagement System” enables a soft release of the buckles and the newly patented “V” shape allows the plug to be inserted smoothly. The ßexible structure of the buckles also offers high breakage prevention against twisting.
