Where to celebrate Area offers several venues BY MICHAEL TIDEMANN STAFF WRITER

Finding a church for a wedding is one thing. Finding a place to honeymoon is another. Yet another — and quite often the most overlooked — is finding a venue for that wedding rehearsal dinner or after-wedding reception. Most churches have a basement or activity area for wedding receptions. However, if your wedding is in mid-summer, availability could be limited. Never assume any facility is available. The longer you can call in advance, the better the chances are that a place will be open. Be aware that since many of these are public facilities, you may be required to sign a contract or leave a damage deposit and abide by rules regarding alcohol distribution and use. Each facility of course will have different rules. Following is a list of local businesses and organizations that offer space for a fee.

Sleep Inn & Suites 2008 Central Ave., Estherville. (712) 362-5522. Conveniently located at Sleep Inn & Suites motel is a breakfast room that can accommodate 40-50 — just the right size for a lot of rehearsal dinners. A minimum of a month reservation is recommended.

VFW Post No. 3388 South First Street, Estherville. (712) 362-5126. The VFW in Estherville actually has two rooms — the trophy room, which comfortably seats 40-50 — ideal for a wedding rehearsal dinner — and the banquet hall, left, which can comfortably seat 250. One big advantage is that on-site catering is available.

MT Vault 21 N. Sixth St. Estherville. 712-362-7755. This unique building, which once received an award for its innovative architectural design, can accommodate a large group yet it still provides intimate gathering areas. Thereʼs also a conveniently located bar.
