DECEMBER 2012 Dennis M. Beagen Honored On December 11, the CMTA family gathered to honor newly-retired Professor Dennis Beagen. His achievements from his 45 years of service to EMU are incredible. His career highlights include: • Service as a faculty member since 1967 and as department head of Communication, Media & Theatre Arts for 31-years from 1981-2012. • Director of the EMU Forensics Team that won its first National Forensics Association (NFA) team championship in 1973. • His Forensics leadership assured that EMU was known as a national powerhouse. The Forensics Team has the record of placing in the “top 10” nationally for over 40 years and winning every Michigan State Team Championship for over 35 years. • A respected University and department fundraiser and friendraiser, he helped to successfully complete many advancement initiatives, including the “Build Theatre” campaign with Ken Stevens. He also served as cochair for the University-wide $17-million “Campaign for Scholars.” He led the University’s Undergraduate Symposium since 1983, serving as chair and visionary of the event for most of those years. The department will always appreciate his student-centered work for CMTA and the University.
