Extra Voice Getting It Done...

by Lindsey Broek, editor/director of communications

In years past, this issue of the Voice has always had some sort of theme. Well this year, after some discussion, we opted out on the theme. My reasoning behind this is because we all know what needs to be done, we need to forge toward the future and strive for each year to be better than the last. There is always room for improvement, but we are making great strides in the right direction! Always a highlight, the May/June/July issue is something that people, including myself, look forward to throughout the year. It is the largest. It is a challenging. It is rewarding. It is a product of many years of hard work and dedication that you, as MaineAnjou breeders, display on these pages. I applaud you for your determination and success. Whatever you’re doing, keep it up! I am very happy with the list of advertisers we have compiled and am pretty jazzed up about the features we have provided. They are sure to grab your attention and give you a look into some past junior Maine-Anjou enthusiasts who are embarking on big things, breeders that are getting it done for cows and kids and programs with a very bright future. With this issue comes a lot of hard work and I would be remiss if I did not thank John, Dave, Kasey and Rhonda for all of their help with putting it together and gathering information. There may not be very

many of us here at the office, but we all work together to try to do the best we can for you. I would also like to thank all of the advertisers who believe in the Voice as an avenue for promotion and those who helped out in writing our feature stories. None of this is done overnight and I appreciate their hard work. When you receive this issue we will be full steam ahead in preparations for the junior national in Lima. Also a highlight throughout the year, the junior national is something we all look forward to. Let me tell you, there are some BIG things planned for this year! We will be starting to collect items for the silent auction before long. If you have anything you would like to donate, please contact our office. All proceeds from the silent auction will benefit this year’s NYLC in E. Lansing, Mich. I encourage all of you kids out there to get involved in the contests. Even if you don’t want to do it… well do it anyway. It is a GREAT way to meet people and to better your skill set. Remember to work hard on those calves at home, those early morning and late nights will all be worth it! We look forward to seeing you in Lima, June 16-22! It’s right around the corner!

Welcome!

The American Maine-Anjou Association would like to welcome Brandi West to our staff as the administrative assistant. Brandi grew up in Baconton, Ga., a very small town in the southwest corner of the state near Albany. Brandi has been a Platte city resident for the last 16 years. Brandi and her husband, along with their two children, Blake, 16, and Ciara, 12, now reside in Platte City. In her spare time, Brandi enjoys grilling out, beef of course, bowling and shooting her bow. The entire family enjoys hunting and fishing together whenever they can. We welcome Brandi to the staff and look forward to working with her in the days to come!
